Has anyone used the Wilkinson vintage style trem
(http://www.jhs.co.uk/wilkinson.html#vibratos)
or the locking machine heads? http://www.jhs.co.uk/wilkinson.html#tuners
I was thinking of putting a Callaham trem in my Strat, but being a complete Scrooge, I'm well up for the WV6SBCR if it can improve my tone and my tuning, for a quarter of Callaham's price. It just seems to cheap to be true.
Likewise, the tuning stability is a bit poor on my Les Paul, and I'm trying to decide where to start with fixing it. A new nut is going on next week (an Earvana courtesy of Feline), but if that doesn't do it, am I better off with a locking bridge or locking machineheads first?
And to finish this barrage of questions: TonePros. You can buy aluminium tailpieces which claim to do the same thing for a lot less money, eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GIBSON-STYLE-ALU-TAILPIECE-VINTAGE-NICKEL_W0QQitemZ220240860363QQihZ012QQcategoryZ42455QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Are you just paying for the name with TonePros?
Time for bed.

I've used a few Wilkinsons, and they're great, imo. They stay in tune as well as any vintage trem, and sound just fine. I haven't used a Callaham, so I can't say how they stack up, but I find it hard to believe they could be four times better ;0)

I have one of their universal fit hipshot style trems and it seems great, the block is huge compared to the ones I've seen on MIM Fenders.

All the Wilkinson stuff is very good. I have one of their trems in my Squier Strat 'project' which is a nice solid piece of kit. I've also got their locking machineheads but I haven't fitted them yet so I can't review them, sorry.

I too skimped on the Callaham (although I have a Callaham in one strat) and bought a Wilkinson - not a lot of difference in tone, nice construction, big heavy block and el cheapo. The eezzeeeee lok tuner things are quite nice to put strings on given the price, although they dont act like a big wonking locking nut!

If they're good enough for andy timmons then they're good enough for me...

Thanks guys!
Sounds good. Now I just have to figure out if I really need one, or if I'm just being GASsy. :D
The guitar doesn't stay in tune that well, and I'm pretty sure the bridge is the culprit. I doubt it's the nut, because that's got half a ton of graphite in it. And it ain't the string retainer, because I don't use it!
The strings are returning to pitch sharp, which Trevor Wilkinson says his bridge will fix.

if that's the same bridge as on the vintage advance av6, i thought it was pretty nice. EDIT: i think it's the one with the steel block on the av6, considering it's only a £3-4 upcharge (or something like that), it's worth it if you're trying to improve tone as well, i'd have thought...
WV6SBCR Steel Block – £26.99- i think that's the one which was on the av6s...

i've put the WVPSBCR steel block on my Mexican strat (daily work hack), nice smooth trem, combined with locking sperzel and a bone nut, tuning is pretty stable too.
I bought it was have a VS100 on a patrick eggle which is very nice, but the one above looked a bit more stratty.
