Hey guys. First post

I have heard great stuff about BKPs for a long time now and I have just purchased a new guitar so I thought it was time to actually try some out

Normally I use active pickups (probably going to get slayed for that), but yeah I have 2 guitars with actives. I like them but I would like to try something passive as I haven't for a few years now

I play through a Peavey 6505 high gain combo with a tubescreamer. I use drop tunings basically all the time - My 7 string is tuned to A# and my 6 is tuned to B. So I would be looking for a pickup/pickup set, that can handle the low tunings but still come through very clear

The guitar I have just purchased has a light weight basswood arch top body, ebony fretboard, string-thru bridge, 25.5" scale

I barely use the neck pickup so I don't really think I am I need of one, but maybe a calibrated set would be better

What do you guys think would be best suited for me? Given the above information, Any help would be really appreciated

Very clear sounding while drop tuned usually means something with a ceramic magnet.  Although BKP's Alnico V magnets are still very clear.  What kind of music do you play the most?  Can you list some bands or songs that have the kind of tone you're after?

Ceramic Warpig will be tight, clear, with high output.  Suited for brutal metal styles.

Painkiller will be tight with it's ceramic magnet but bright sounding in basswood/ebony.

Nailbomb is more versatile than those two but still with more than enough bite fore metal.  You can custom order it with a ceramic magnet like you can with the Warpig to tighten it up.

If you still can't decide email Tim directly for the best recommendation.

I have a nailbomb in my 7 string thats currently in G# standard, stays quite clear. Ill get back to you on how it handles a LOW E in a week or two. The cold sweat is a freakin beast downtuned as well, although ive only heard it in an ash strat tuned to B

Ceramic Warpig sounds great for you man!

I used to use a 5150 II with it, sounded brutal!

Why do you use a tubescreamer with a 6505 though?

I use a 5150-II with an ibanez RG470 loaded with a bridge Miracle Man. Handles the A-E-A-B-F*-B fantastically well. Can't say I haven't also thought about Painkiller, Ceramic Pig (mostly thinking about this one) or Nailbombs, though. Definitely best to e-mail Tim to see what his suggestion for your guitar would be, but I'd be pretty sure that any of those four pickups would really open a can of BKP worms for you :)
My next guitar will definitely have BKPs, and will be designed with the low stuff firmly in mind, methinks :)

Nobody has recommended a Miracle Man? Ceramic magnet and is supposed to be the tightest of the BKP range - very high output and aggressive; well suited for various heavier metal genres...

Need more information!

What sort of tonal character? There are several high-output BKPs that will stay clear when very detuned, and they are very different in sound.
