Title: Neck Puckup To Accompany a Painkiller
Post by: ESPImperium on June 07, 2008, 11:18:11 PM
What neck pickup would accompany my Painkiller in in the bridge of my ESP LTD EC-1000???

BKP PG Blues
BKP Black Dog
BKP Sold Sweat
BKP VH-II

Im looking for a slightly more aggressive PAF, but still clean neck pickup, a more organic version of the EMG 60 (but passive version of the EMG 60) in other-words you could say.

Thanks again.

Wasn't the EMG-60 originally designed to sound like a mini-humbucker?  I found it very bright as a neck pickup.

I don't think the Black Dog neck is going to fit the bill, and I'd guess the PG Blues is too sweet and low-output to match well with the PK.  Don't know about your other two suggestions.

I have PK/CS in my KV2 so I know that combo works well.

The VHII neck is warmer, rounder, less "modern" neck tone, but still has plenty of output.  It more than holds its own against the NB bridge in my PRS, so I'm guessing it would balance OK with a PK too.

There are some neck shootout clips in Players that might help...
