This made me laugh out loud. The story on it's own is pretty good but to capture it on video is a bit of a bonus.
Here's the story:
‘One conspiracy theory involving Aldrin stems from a supposed Apollo moon landing hoax by the U.S. government. On September 9, 2002, filmmaker Bart Sibrel, a proponent of the conspiracy allegations, confronted Aldrin outside a Beverly Hills, California hotel. Sibrel called Aldrin "a coward, a liar, and a thief," saying "You're the one who said you walked on the moon and you didn't." Aldrin punched Sibrel in the face.[19] Beverly Hills police and the city's prosecutor declined to file charges. Sibrel suffered no permanent injuries.’

I love old guys who won't take sh1t from jumped up twits used to politically correct media responses...
If only more people received a direct answer to stupid questions society would be in a better state!
-
that was great!
-
Go Buzz!!!
-
Nice one Buzz!!!
I knew about this episode, but I hadn't seen any pictures of it...
"Ali G" cornered him a few years later but didn't get smacked (I understand he was slightly more amusing, but he didn't manage to get a rise out of Aldrin, even with "do you fink man will ever walk on the sun?")
-
hahaha awesome
-
Smoked by an old man
What the hell kind of dreadful journalism was that anyway?

It was the kind of 'journalism' that has got the trade a bad name. I'm a journalist myself, and guys like that drive me bloody crackers. They're nothing more than cheap hacks, and this one got what he deserved.

Yeah, see I've a good pal that's a journalist too and I'm fairly confident he doesn't interview the first minister along the lines of "Oi, Salmont you inept prick, when's this fucking referundum coming eh?"

Hahaha, nicely put! That kind of approach is frowned upon somewhat, and using it once can make getting a follow-up interview pretty difficult. It's perfectly possible for an investigative journalist to ask difficult questions without being offensive or cheap - John Pilger springs to mind as a good example.

I think you're being very kind calling that gent. a journalist. Blogosphere tabloid stuff at it's worst.

You're right there. But on reflection, it's somehow even worse than even blogosphere tabloid - it's conspiracy-theory fuelled, borderline obessive hackery at its absolute worst.
-
Yeah everyone knows physical violence is the best response to critisism.
I am no fan of conspiracy theories either, but a man who smacks someone for talking shitee about him is not exactly role-model worthy either.

Never had a mike shoved in your face and someone shouting at you that you're a liar then? I think it's a fairly natural reaction, what I'm surprised about is that said journalist, ooops, hack has not sued the old geezer. But then with that all over the interwebs I doubt that anything would stick.

It was more like abuse or harassment than criticism, really. That doesn't mean it was entirely defensible; in a perfect world Buzz would have kept his cool and dealt with the guy politely and everyone would go home happy. But I think it's a natural human instinct to (occasionally) give someone a smack when they are acting like that, and a part of me thinks "he deserved it".

Lol, great video. I wanna hit someone too!

True, smacking someone in the chops is not the ideal reaction, and not one I'd condone, but people like that hack (and I've met/dealt with a fair few) sometimes are just begging for a slap. Plus, Aldrin is from a generation where, if someone gets in your face, talking shite about you and your reputation, you don't launch a lawsuit, you deal with it directly. Of course, there's always the possibility Aldrin felt physically threatened, and got his retaliation in first.

agreed. :)

Oh I agree completely that he was begging for it. I'm just saying that it's not something that makes me think higher of Buzz Aldrin.
-
Buzz Aldred is pretty hard! especially for his age lol
-

I don't know who he is, but that does make me think highly of him, contrasting to the modern world where people don't stand up for themselves and have their actual rights abused; and where people complain of human right breaches that are a load of cr@p. I don't mean to provoke an argument, but this guy has got some of my respect. I would do the same, although I won't be famous :P

Buzz was the second man to step on the surface of the moon Will.
-
But the first to take a pee!!
(When he paused on the way down the ladder)
-
Go Buzz!!!
+ 1

I thought that was Buzz Lightyear
Thanks, I knew the name was familiar
-
I don't know who he is, but that does make me think highly of him....
Oh my god.. I'm really not being an a$$hole so please don't take offence but if people don't know who went to the moon - possibly man's greatest achievement - We're F*cked

Lol, the name was familiar (and I do have an awful memory), but in all fairness, mans greatest achievement etc... It doesn't really make any difference to me
-
plus they didn't really go there, after all. Oh wait, how did this all start again?
:D
(PS I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and I'm grateful towards our lunar explorers for giving us something from the sixties to be thankful for)

lol i'd punch him too if i had 4 decades of rediculously untrue theories which sought to disprove my life's greatest achievement (and quite possibly MAN'S), continually pressed by some losers trying to be journalists
-
The world we be a better place if we all punched an idiot :D I'm all for it.
-
Go buzz!!
I understand. Ish. As best I can, having never done anything even close. He did something that was absolutely incredible, pushed the frontiers of what mankind is capable of, and for years now shit-spouting ignorant blowhards have been trying to take it off him, and everyone else that worked so hard for it, and this guy comes up to him about it with this attitude!?!?!
A good punch, in all possible ways.
-
Aye, I was even on Prescott's side against the egg thrower.

^ ^ exactly, mark.
^ let's not get carried away now.
