Title: Help....broken valve amp!

My friends amp has stopped working. It fires up, valves glow but it hums and guitar won't come through it! Any ideas?

Has the speaker plug fallen out?

Does it have a tube rectifier ? If so, could be a faulty one of those. What's the amp ?  Does it have an effects loop - and if you plug something through the FX loop return, is there any sound ?
