Title: Funkaholic - Mothers milk/Sinner
Post by: Sekhmet on September 09, 2005, 03:51:53 PM
Woo finally got round to buying a microphone to start recording, so here it is my first track. I appolagise about the recording quality, this is my first time recording, taken me the best part of a day to try and get it sounding as good as possable, still a tiny bit of clipping, oh and the tracks quiet quiet so you might wanna bump your speakers up a bit.

Right the technical bit.

All clean guitar is with the mothers milk in the neck position and a tiny bit underneath (if you can pick it out, just choards to help establish the rythm) on the neck/middle position.

The distorted rythm guitar is on the bridge sinner.

The distorted leads are on the neck mothers milk.

I love this guitar, it's so damn versatile now thanks to the BKP's  :D  :D

Hope you enjoy the track.

There's only one guitar makes a sound like that! Really lovely clean tone.

Hehe cheers, i think i've got the clean tone down, just need a bit more practice at the distortion, better than i thought it would be but didn't quite capture the exact tone, i might try close mic'ing the speaker(s) and see if that helps.

I love the mothers milk for clean stuff, sounds so nice, their really fat for neck leads to.

Working on 2 more clips atm to show off the versatility of these pick ups, a Jazzy rock one, and a heavier shread one.

Has anyone got any tips on recording that might help me?

Currently i run a Sennheiser e835 through a 10 band eq (all settings flat) then into the pc. Then i do the editing and layering in Audacity (just a free sound editing program but i find it works really well.)

I'm not familiar with the mic but I use essentially the same setup (mine is an SM58 through a fostex 4 track). Close micing may help and is well worth a go. Try it with the mic pointing towards the speaker cone but at an angle. The other thing that will definately help is getting a good signal. With digital (i.e. your pc) this means as high as possible without going into the red. The result is that any background noise will be lower in relation to the sound of your guitar.

Incredible how a single coil can get that wild. That's a pretty versitile axe you got there.
