Title: Another 'new guy'
Post by: Ted 'N' Leo on June 12, 2008, 06:16:20 PM
Hey Folks, I've been reading this forum for a while, and after careful consideration (IE making sure you're not all w**ks) I've decided to join.

So without further ado, here is the gear list I'm utilising at the moment.

Epi Les Paul Custom Plus
Dunlop Jimi Wah JH-1B
MXR ZW Overdrive (Hopefully to be replaced with a Tube Screamer)
Fender Deluxe 112 Plus (Hey, it was only £35!)

I also hope to put a set of BKPs in the Epi at some point.

Just thought i'd say hello!

Stu

Welcome to the forum.

If you've seen me posting here before... well you haven't, or your first sentence wouldn't hold true :)

Anyway, hello :)

Well, I've been playing for about 7 and a half years, but have only recently moved in a more blues orientation in the last year and half, away from my metal beginings!

Also, having just finished my degree, i'm now at home in a rather backwater part of Scotland, spending my days applying for jobs and checking out gear.

Sorry about the phone quality, i also tried to get that first one the right way round, but my computer wasn't having it, oh well!

I got this one about 2 years I think, possibly my favourite guitar, the neck is slightly slimmer than the normal Customs, not sure if this makes it a 60s profile, or if that is even relevant considering its an Epi.

As far as sounds go, i've found it to be fairly versitile, it can manage blues to metal and most inbetween.

The only gripe I've got with it, is that the selector switch doesn't work very well, and often crackles, that aside, very good guitar for the money.

I love that finish! I want an Epi Les Paul Custom. I might just go plain old Ebony as I plan to play it till my fingers fall off for the original 'used' look.

Anyways very nice finish! There's also the Wine Red, Flame Top and, before mentioned, Ebony and Alpine White too. Choices!

Can you not easily change the pickup selector? I'm assuming it's a stock one.

Yeah, quite an easy fix I think, the only reason I haven't got round to it yet is because I've been lazy/broke for the past 3 years due to being a student.

Ah, the 'Being a Student' card. I'm gonna have to draw that one next year. I'm gonna dread it, so I'm gonna buy what I want now and hopefully it'll last me the 3-4 years of university.

And after saying that I must be absolutely crazy as I am not going to NOT buy anything for 3-4 years. Bankruptcy, loans and starvation- here I come!

Tell me about it. I bought that one when I was in first year, I was literally on cheap cheap food for a few weeks until I could build up my balance again.

Although not quite 9p noodles.

I see your point, but from the other perspective.
On other guitars, there is so much space that is really not neccesary, a solo doesn't need to be right at the top of a fretboard IMO.
Good luck with your search, I haven't played too many epiphones, but I got lucky with mine. Maybe the maple neck really brings it alive

I thought it might've been that one, I did consider that one when I was in the market for a Les Paul, but the maple fretboard didn't agree with me. I also thought two signature guitars would be stepping over a line of sorts (the other sig guitar being a Washburn Dime).

Welcome from me as well Stu.

I've also shifted towards playing blues, although with the emphasis on rock/blues really.

If you're looking for a rock/blues tone I can recommend  Emerald pups. I put a set into my LP and haven't looked back since. They can be hot but do clean up very nicely.

Thanks for the recommendation Machinehead.

I'm currently in a dilemna over whether to break my BKPs virginity, or to get an acoustic that ive been pawning over for a bit.

Decisions decisions!

Speaking as a complete w**ker, I took offence at your opening comment.
