I am thinking of the Sennheiser E606, although some people have suggested the Shure SM57. This will be for micing my amp and cabs only. WHat do yo suggest? At the moment I am going for the Sennheiser

I don't have much experience with this, and I can't say I've tried the sennheiser, but Shure SM57s are very much the de facto standard (provided that you get a real one and not a fake!).
I doubt very much that you could go wrong at all with the SM57 :)

Another vote for the Shure.
I have a Samson.
It sucks.

I have an SM57 and even plugged into my m/b's onboard soundcard it gets pretty good results :)

You won't go wrong with either, the 606 is an excellent mic too. But since it is more or less designed flat for micing a cab face on, it slightly less flexible for other applications. Go for the Sure, you'll need one sooner or later.
Also another cheap mic to consider is the Nandy type ribbon which shows up under several different brands. Thomann have their brand for 111 Euros. Ribbon mics sound good on guitars and they are not as delicate as people claim if you use them with a bit of common sense.

I was actually looking at the T.Bone one, presumably I would have to buy a shield and stuff too though
Should I buy the Shure new to be sure it is not fake?
To be honest, the only thing I will be doing with this is flat miking so which is better in that department?
Would the Sennheiser E906 be better?

I have a Sennheiser 609 and an SM57, if I could only have one of them, I'd chose the Shure, it sounds always "right", whereas the Sennheiser only does together with a more brilliant/direct mic.
Get a 57 first, and if you're missing something, an AKG C1000 to add some room is never wrong too.

I have a Sennheiser E906 & a Shure SM57. I like them both but I find myself using the SM57 a lot more at the moment. The E906 seems better as a second mic to add depth/"colour" to the guitar sound.
I also have an Audix i5 though I haven't really found the best position for it in front of my cab yet. If money was no object I'd also have a Sennheiser MD421... :-)
If you can only get one mic, get the SM57 (why would anyone even consider buying an unbadged copy when you can get the real thing for <£65?)

Who knows, maybe I'll buy the Sennheiser in the future
