Title: Hi. Where to get a Sustainer pickup like Phil Collens'...?
Post by: Rich78 on June 16, 2008, 02:23:25 PM
Hello. Phil Collens has a sustainer pickup on his PC1.
Can we buy them from somewhere as a kit?

The only thing Ive found is on ebay. A Fernandez. 120 quid!

Its for a Washburn Mercury. MM in the Bridge. No frills Wilkinson in the neck.

If the sustainer pickup is installed in the neck postion (like Phil's) will it still work with the bridge pick up?

Cheers. Rich.

You could also get a Sustainiac. In fact, that's probably the best bet because its less intrusive to fit than the Fernandes and only requires one 9v battery, I think. You can also use a Sustainiac with any bridge pickup.

Sustainers work together with the bridge pickup. So when the sustainer is on, the bridge pickup is on too. When it's acting as a sustainer, it's not a pickup. It uses a magnetic field to create sustain/ harmonics, which your bridge pickup then amplifies.

I think they're very cool, but I like the sound of my existing neck pickups way too much to put one in any of my current guitars.

Yes - we keep the Sustainiac in stock
Have just gotten started with it
We have the single coil driver size version of the Stealth Plus (in black) in stock as it is the most popular one.
It comes with push pull pots to access thevarius functions.
I was amazed at all the different tweaks that the system has available
A lot of thought has gone into it....

The sustainiac website is a bit old fashioned layout wise but contains a lot of info: http://sustainiac.com/stplus.htm
