Hi, I've ha my p-90s in my les paul for a couple of weeks now, and there's still a slight thing that bugs me. In the middle pickup position the G string seems a lot louder than the B and especially the D string. With either pickup alone I cant really notice it. I'm using d'addario xl .11s with a plain G, but I tried and liked a wound G before, would that help? The effect is not that bad, and I can live with it but I just thought it was odd. Any suggestions?

A plain G will always be louder than a wound one as the pickup senses the core of the string.
You can lower the g string polepieces if it will help a bit or go back to using the wound G

It is strange that it it more noticable with both pickups, but not with each individually. Could they be out of phase with each other? With P-90's you can mount them upside down without being able to tell. You could try turning one of them around and see if it cures it.

I dont think they're upside down, they never even came loose from the covers. They are RW/RP though, I dont know if thats got anything to do with it.

That will give you a parallel humbucker with a Gibson switch, it might do it. The parallel sound is sccoped though, usually it is the bass that you miss. Perhaps this is making the G sound louder.

they wont be out of phase, they would sound horrible. As feline said, just lower the G pole piece on each pickup, see if it goes away.

It's the effect of the RWRP neck. When both pickups are on together they are humcancelling in parallel, this has the effect of a slight drop in overall volume and cancelling of certain frequencies, bass being one. This will pronounce the G, especially if it's unwound.
