Post by: MDV on June 19, 2008, 05:29:44 PM
Preferably 26.5, but will try 27 too.

About 300£

Not from ebay

Anything out there?

I cant think of much for £300ish that isnt used... You might be able to find a schecter daimien ex which has a 26.5" scale for around £350 new if there is any remaining stock.

or a schecter scorpian tribal off thomman: http://www.thomann.de/gb/schecter_diamond_scorpion_deluxe_blk.htm

or there are a few agile models if you dont mind importing. this looks quite tasty:

Other than that I think you will struggle to find anything for that sort of price other than on ebay.

for around £450-£500 there is the esp/ltd models and the schecter blackjack ex.

not at all metal, but Danelectro do a baritone.

also, Warmoth do baritone conversion necks which will fit most strat type neck pockets.  if you've an old strat copy lying under your bed this could be the perfect time to resurrect it!

I was going to suggest custom, but then read the post and realised that wasn't helpful.

So I posted it anyway...

Oh well!

If you're not averse to an LPish shape, you could try one of these http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Yamaha-AES520D6---Satin-Black-Metallic~ID~3866.asp. I've got the long-discontinued RGX version. It's tuned B E A D F# B, and sounds absolutely bloody beastly!

The 200 series goes for cheaper than the 400.

You could try and Warmoth it. It would be fun.

Or an Epi, (no idea if it's any good)....

That ibanez one looks really nice, too!!

Off topic, but lower down the page where it's got other guitars "you might be interested in", it says the following:

"Who else but B.C. Rich would you expect to offer neck through guitars?"

Erm... you want a list, Dolphin?

That ibanez looks great, sambo, thanks. A little pricey, though. I mean, I can afford it, but its whether its worth that for what its for, which is to spend some time with a baritone to see if I like it/can get acustomed to it to decide on the scale length for my new custom (yes, roo, this is all for a custom baritone)

The schecter looks like the most realistic possibility. But I like the spec adn look of the ibanez much more. (except the 28 inch neck: overkill! But it would be great proof of concept: if I like 28, then I'll be fine with 26.5 or 27!)

Thanks for the replies fellas, I appreciate it!

I think the best thing to do is to never try a baritone, and just go ahead and order a custom fanned fret baritone, maybe with a new/custom body shape thrown in for good measure.

A plan with no possible drawbacks!

28 is great on the bass, 26.5 good on the treble.... fanned fret is the answer... not for £300 though

I don't think you will get a decent one for 300 pds. The ESP/LTD ViperBaritone 200 is not produced anymore, so you would have to get it used. The VB400 is IMO the best fairly inexpensive baritone on the market - but it's at least 200 pounds over your budget.

They all have 27" scale, which is what I like.

I suddenly feel the urge to show off my baritone...  :D  sorry for this ;-)
