After spending all week playing in my new Martamp Roadstar I thought it was time to test out a pedal to give it an extra kick when needed. I play blues - hard rock (all badly.)
Martin said it loves pedals and it certainly got its fill today.
I took all my gear and spent an hour and a half at Sounds Great trying out some great pedals: T-Rex Moller, Ibanez TS 9 reissue, Tonebone Classic, Blackstar Overdrive, Crowther Hotcake, Full Tone Fat Boost, Maxon od 808 overdrive, Moolon Overdrive, Xotic AC Plus and the Zvex Super Hard On.
The Mules suprised me with how much ground they can cover.
I thought the Zvex Super Hard On was brilliant. Just the 1 control and a bypass switch but it's basically just a big 'better' button.
Sadly I didn't end up getting it as I needed a bit more flexibility hence the trigger was pulled on the AC Plus as it covered a lot more tonal ground.
I now have GAS for more Zvex stuff. This sort of thing never happened before I started looking at this bloody forum! Now I have a new vice.

How did the Maxon Od808 compare in this shootout? I have a modded one which i use for tightening up my sound but i was wondering how it compared to other pedals in terms of overdrive?

+1 to that..I've never had such a long list of music related stuff that I want to try out! Glad the Martamp is going well - you'll have to do some clips now :)

Clips will be on the way next week.
I liked the Maxon more than the Tube Screamer but both were in the same ball park and had a more subtle understated overdrive effect that comes in to its own when the amp was already being pushed hard. They had the least overdrive effect on my amp. The Zvex and Xotic had the most; they seemed to go best with my amp and could push it in to feedback at very low volume if required.
All the others were in the middle ground in terms of overdrive comparisons.
They are all the sort of things that you need to try with your own amp as I think sonic results vary wildly depending on each combination.

Okay thanks

You can also get a Box of Rock, great JTM style drive plus the boost you liked so much in one pedal. As far as I know is the boost in the BOR the same as the SHO.

How did the Feline Lion go down at Sounds Great?
Glad the Mules work so well for you - I love 'em!

Thanks Hunter. Might well give one a try. One has just gone for £83 on ebay so I'll keep my eye out.
Jonathan -They thought it Sounded Great (awful, awful, pun)

Cool - a lot of guys in shops have never even heard of us and undervalue them as a result - thats how come Prozacbear got a Tabby so cheap.
Glad you are having fun with her!
