They look good for the money. Giving myself more gas
-
Giggidy Giggidy Goo!
Looks very nice indeed!
-
Yeah that quilted maple top one looks really nice on the front!
-
They are rather sexy, I'd still rather have a used PRS singlecut for the money tho.
-
The ones I've seen pics of were nice, but a bit too Quilty for me. And that's not a Vladimir Nabokov reference.
-
Um i thought they were much cheaper than PRSs? Maybe the singlecuts are more expensive than the other models?
I'd probably rather have a Feline for the money!
-
Are these new?
They're gorgeous - But I thought they'd been around for a while?
-
they're actually pretty nice, how much are we talking for them though?

Pretty sure they've only just come out earlier this year... along with the new covered pickups
-

The price on that page is $1,379*, and I imagine shipping to the UK (if they offer it) is at least $100. So with VAT, import duty etc you're talking somewhere around the £950 mark I think.
(* that's probably just for a basic model with no "custom" features, I didn't read all the details)

bottom one is pretty..but still prefer the last few feline Lp' esk guitars

Ah i just skimmed the page, far too much reading to do.
So what's the deal with the Carvin pickups? 12 poles per coil seems excessive...

It's only 11, so quite reasonable really...
The idea is that there's no volume drop when the strings are bent or don't align properly. Whole thread about it here:

Again, thanks for that, I have no patience for reading stuff online recently, been fried by a load of online journal articles. Woo :?

I thought they were cheaper, 950 in pounds is a lot cheaper than the price of a PRS singlecut by hundreds!
They are a bit quilty or flamey but some of the other models are a lot less blingy. The bang for buck value is hard to beat imo. I'm looking at their semi too, very nice! Some of the things you get standard are great for the money.

They are cheaper than a new PRS, but with all the options I would want It would be around £1100-£1200 with VAT and import tax and for that you can get a pretty immaculate USED PRS singlecut. That and I dont like the headstock that much.
-
If it's £950 for a bog standard one (i don't even think they look very nice, real tacky looking) then i'd rather save my money for a bit longer and buy a Feline LP. :D

If you go through the build your own guitar part of the site you get most of the good stuff as standard.

True, but that £950 I calculated was assuming they ship direct to the UK. I think it says on the website that international orders have to be made through authorised local dealers - so no doubt they'd bump the price up by a few hundred quid.
Didn't Carvin have a proper UK distributor at one point (about 10-ish years ago)? I remember the prices were nothing like the bargains they are in the US.

Bollocks to all that i'd just get it shipped to my mate in Vegas then sort it out from there.

Direct is best!

They are quite cheap by American prices though, and afterall that's where they are made so that's what should count. PRS's are more than twice the price and construction methods are similar. They come in three versions now, one in all mahogany, one with a plain maple top, so you can save a few bucks if you don't care much for flashy finishes.

Thanks for that link! :D
Hmm, I can get a Holdsworth from only £749! Anyone used this place?
-
But what Bks would fit in one of those for classic/ hard rock?
-
Those prices aren't too bad, actually!

NB: You must order COVERED Carvin pickups with the guitar or else you'll have to make the pickup rout bigger as BKPs won't fit in...

I don't mind doing a bit of routing, but excellent tip! Is it that they don't have a standard rectangular baseplate?
-
Think so but not entirely sure...
