This is the product of another Harmony Central coverfest - a 70s one :) The vocals, bass, mixing and mastering were done by a user on Guitar Jam called Prages, awesome singer and he knows his way around cubase it would seem!
Guitar was my usual setup of Epi LP Custom into a Keeley Rat set for a light boost, then GH50L, G12H cab and SM57. Sounds quite good considering I'm still using onboard soundcard :) For the rhythms, one track is bridge pickup, the other is middle with the neck volume slightly rolled off. First solo is bridge, then the main one is neck. Made a few bum notes on the main solo but I'm quite pleased with it overall.
Oh yeah and the drums were programmed in Reaper with EZDrummer plugin - took bloody ages to do it all from scratch!
edit - mix has been updated with less reverb and more backing vocals at the end.

ARRRGGHHHH I hate that song ......
The guitar playing does sounds really good though - great fingers and superb tone :D
-
haha its really grown on me, its such a good pop-rock song, really catchy :)
-
Rockin'! I actually love this song. But it does happen to be the only song I know by the Knack. One hit wonder is still a wonder.
-
Great tone on this tom and also nice playing.
Did you do the drums yourself?
you got a very good sound there.

They had another catchy song called Good Girls Dont. Other than that I dont know any of their stuff.
Transcend yeah I did the drums myself, programmed in Reaper and used EZDrummer as the vst instrument.

haha thanks, it is annoyingly catchy! I'm doing another Harmony Central coverfest soon, 80s this time so expect something cheesy like Bon Jovi or some Michael Jackson :P
-
COOL :D
Great soloing dude!! damn.
-
That sounds like a really pro cover to me.
-
Thanks :) I made a few little mistakes in the solo which annoyed me but I'm too lazy and inconsistent to re-record :P
-
Great stuff Tom, very well played! :D
-
sounds great, makes me wanna get a keeley RAT now, it's always been my favourite overdirve/distortion pedal, it sounds so raw. Nice tone there Tom!
-
I keep meaning to congratulate you on this clip when you get online, but I keep forgetting!
Awesome stuff. You've improved a lot since i 'met' you, which is more than can be said for me.

Its still there as an attachment in the first post. Well it is for me anyway.
-
Nice one tom, backing is awesome too.
What is your recording set up though? I know you have a mic into your sound card, is that it? Wondering if it was that simple.
-
Yeah it is  SM57 with an XLR-1/4" jack into the onboard sound on my motherboard! I keep saying I'll get a good interface but never get round to it. I have a job now so I might actually be able to afford one soon.. I dont have a mic stand yet either :D
-
Sounds good though, might invest in a mic. I'm sick of coming up with a cool riff or song on my electrics, but having to set up garageband and grab my acoustic to record and send to bandmates. Tis a plan forming, yes!
