Title: Flying V's
Post by: Dazza1004 on June 24, 2008, 01:28:59 PM
I am so tempted to buy this V, it seems a bit of steal to me.

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/68171

If I don't get one before all of my hair finally falls out it will be too late

Plus as the sufferer of a seriously bad back it looks quite light. Not that I am trying to convince myself

you should go for it. Vs are a classic guitar with better rock'n'roll credentials than any other model, including strats or les pauls.

i have a faded red V myself. it is a steal i reckon.

they're relatively light - and agile too. there is no easier guitar to fling around stage. sitting down, clamped between ones legs they are rock solid, and therefore an ideal studio guitar too.

you know it makes sense.

edit to be more convincing:

jazz, funk, blues, rock and metal - the V is a guitar for any situation:

billy gibbons
jimi hendrix
albert king
michael schenker
kk downing
brian tatler
dave davies
rudolf schenker
james hetfield
randy rhoades
pete townshend
brian may
van halen
slash
etc etc...

I have been thinking about getting something more crunchy and more open than the miracle man set in my eggle so they would slot nicely in the V

Couple of slightly tenuous inclusions there at the end... I know all those guys own Vs, but.....

Is it just me or does that look too wide in the body at the neck end?
Maybe it's the effect of the binding......

I think that's probably my dodgy photography, not getting the angles quite right.

I'm looking at some pictures of a '58 V now (not having a real one to hand at the moment   ) and the distances from the neck pickup ring to the upper corners of the body look identical to me.

But you're right, I think the binding creates a bit of an optical illusion.

Oh man, GAS Attack, I regret selling my Gibby a while ago, even if the fretboard was a little too wide, it was great for on stage.

I saw one of those Fernandes Steeler's in a shop by me about a month ago and it played like a dream, it was going for £450, if I'd only had the money :(

your edwards is really cool philly, but as i say i have a similar hamer. to be honest the hamer is a nicely put together guitar, but i rarely play it... partly it just has dimarzios, partly i find the sunburst a bit too much and partly 'undefinable reasons' - at least i got a great bargain with it. i expect the edwards with duncans and likely nicer build might get played more. i doubt you'd consider a px for my hamer as you're selling to free up some space.

the fernades steeler is still bidding at £160, but theres several days left. thinking rationally some more the floyd is putting me off a bit. £500 is probably a fair price to be honest. unless i get the bidding fever i might give it a miss after all.

i sort of realised recently that everything about a guitar has to feel right or it just sits in the case. for example, my feline V has great looks and obviously top notch craftsmanship... i hardly make any mistake when i play it, and it really flatters my everyday joe playing style. but i've not been able to find the right pickups for its unusual sycamore body. nothing i've tried really satisfies - at the moment i think maybe underwound mississippi queens would work.

Yeah, absolutely... some guitars you "bond" with and some you don't.  For me it's less about the sound than the neck shape, the balance, the way it resonates acoustically.  The right pickups can always be found eventually (I play unplugged most of the time, TBH).

And sometimes there's no reason at all - there's hardly any difference between my two SG-Xs, but the green one's "the one" and the black one stays in its case.  I don't know why.

I've had lots of guitars (as you know   ) but probably 70% of them will come and go, only a few are "keepers" - and they're not necessarily the best ones.

See, I'm hipper than you think! (Hmmm, is it hip to say "hip"?  :? )

I even have one of their CDs (don't like it much, I must admit).  I also have albums by Arch Enemy, Soilwork, The Haunted, Gojira, Goatsblood (that was a mistake...), Machine Head, Mastodon, Opeth (do the last three count as Teh Brootalz? not sure).  And probably some others I've forgotten.  I mostly just like the melodic bits though.

I have no idea who he is either, that green is ok.  I suppose i am gonna be cliche and prefer the red flashes one, but i think it would be far cooler if it had purple flashes!
