3rd try at a slowhand clip ;)
thanks to _tom_ for constructive critics with previous takes.... this time i spent a while on microphone positioning. i guarantee the guitar sounds exactly like this in the room - its my most accurate ever recording. there quite a bit of fret buzz - i'm blaming squier for that. i don't touch the amp at all during the recording.

Wants a bit more bass IMO, but you like it without. Sounds really fat still, and clean is far fuller

I'm not keen on the clean sound, but when the gain comes in I like it a lot - one of those sounds I could play for hours.

Way too much top end for my tastes, but that may be what you're going for.
Try dialing out ALOT of treble and presence, crank the bass and mids to around 8.
The stock 2204 isn't best suited to low output single coils imo unless you use the low input.
I think the baseplate would give it much more guts.

i was personally quite keen on the tone, indeed what i was going for - sort of of early metal/punk sound. my clips seem to cause a bit of a split and in general they haven't been liked.
having never played a slowhand without baseplate i'm not 100% sure what its doing to the sound. but i think it sounds sort of p90-ish and fenderish at the same time.

tbh, it sounds like the gear you play, with the bass dialed right out. If thats what you like, its fine!
again, I think this would sit perfectly in a band mix

maybe i should do a clip with sort of backing like hunter does... i suppose i'm of the opinion that low end is for a bass guitar or keyboard to handle. you're 100% right though will, the bass is almost totally dialled out ;) i think it was on 1 or 2 during this clip.

I thought marshalls were meant to be played with everything on 10 :o It sounds a bit thin and scratchy, kinda solid state-ish again. I just put the clip into reaper and boosted the lower mids by 7db and bass by a few and it sounded much thicker and fuller to me :)

...and you'd be suprised how bad my marshall sounds with everything on 10 :?

Is it really that bad? I know my laney sounds a bit cr@p with everything on 10 because the treble is too harsh but when you turn that down you get a really good sound :)

depending on the quality of the tubes, it start to sound bad once the master volume goes above 6.

Ah right, I was actually on about the eq more than the volume I think. New clip sounds much better to me. I'd like to hear it with a band :)

indeed: eq-wise, theres no setting which is terrible, although having said that some settings are obviously pretty sub-optimal.
i used my phil hilborne fat treble booster, you won't believe the difference it made to the tone on the second clip.

The Marshall JMP master volume sounds $%&#ing awesome on 10!
I had that white one I posted around here on 10 with presence: 0, bass: 8, mid: 10, treble: 10 and gain:8. Boosted with an OD-1. Tone of the Gods!
