Folks - been quite a bit of discussion about this, so I thought that I'd post a small poll which might be of interest:
Which is/are your brand/model of main speaker(s) ?
Curious to see just how dominant Celestions are out there!
Mike

I own a v30, a g12h and but not least a c12k jensen
-
main model is a G12H100 (which is really nice, but I'd like to tweak my tone a bit with a different model)
also own V30, G12H30, G10 Vintage and a spare G12H100
-
i don't own any celestions, but i am certain they will be in at least one of my future cabs. That alnico blue looks great, but i envision the V30 for myself in the not so far off future.
-
Celestion G12H30. I dont own any others at the minute. I want to get an Orange or Martamp 4x12 which I guess have v30s in but I really cant afford or justify it at the minute :(
-
Celestion S12-150
-
Mix of G12H and G12M- if I had to choose one it'd be the G12M Heritage
-
Celestion S12-150
Same here!
Otherwise known as Celestion Sidewinder, because of the special edgewound aluminium voice coil that allowed for greater efficiency
Edited because I cant seem to type in sentences that make sense today
-
I have Celestion V30s, G12T-75s, G12H Heritages and G12T-100s in various 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 cabs.
My 'main' speaker is the Celestion G12T-100 ('Hot 100').
-
Vintage 30s for me - by far my favourite.
A few years ago I did a side-by-side demo of Marshall 1960A (with G12T75s) & 1960AV (with V30s) cabs. The AV with V30s just sounded far superior to me - much more depth, projection, tone, chunk.
My current cab (Mesa Recto 2x12") has V30s, as do the other cabs I'd like to get (Engl E212VH, Mesa Recto 4x12", H&K VC412A30).
The only other speaker I'd really like to have is the Celestion Classic Lead 80. AFAIK they aren't installed in any production cabs, but I tried them in a VHT Pittbull 2x12 combo in about 1994. That amp sounded unbelievably good :)
-
I'm not surprised. Celestion is pretty much the market leader. Almost all big seller amps ere standard equipped with Celestions.
I use Jensen C12N's by the way.
-
Celestion G12K-100's.
Would of been Eminence Swamp Thangs if there was any in the UK.
-
I'm another Celestion Sidewinder user. I have one in my Silver Jubilee and one in an Ear Candy Sovereign cab. I just got 4 more but will probably put them in 2 2x12 cabs rather than a 4x12. I am still waiting for an Ear Candy buzzbomb 2x12, it is coming with their speakers, but I want to try the Sidewinders and my Scumback M12-75-LHDC's in it. I also have a 2x12 with Eminence Tone Spotters which sounds great. I have a lot of other speakers in various amps and cabs too. I just always keep coming back to the Sidewinders.
-
G12H for me too :)
-
I'm getting V30's for my Laney cab. In my Laney VC50 i used to have i had 2 Celestion Classic Lead 80's in it.
-
i have v30s. Mainly because when i got the cab I didn't know too much about speakers and figured it was a decent bet to go with the "industry standard" for the tones i was after. Also, the fact they came stock in cabs helped too.
-
Just a note on the S12, bored as **** and so just been searching for info on them, apparently Celestion have something similar in the works again
read here (http://www.carvinbbs.com/viewtopic.php?t=8829&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
I guess since the EVM12L is back, Celestion have taken a bit of notice?
Could be bollocks though :P
-
G12-65
out of the few speakers I have tried, saying that, it's so good I have no desire to try any more
-
Celestion G10 S-50's. Been going well for the last 24 years :)
Edit: 4 of 'em. :)
-
I got celestion custon 80's. I dont know anything about them though.
-
I have Jensons in my Laney VC30. I am sure that I could probably find something "better" but I am content with the amp as it is. Maybe when I have nothjing else to think about I might change but the sound is good to my ears.
-
Switched from vintage 30 to a G12k-100 in my Engl Thunder, So much more depth and clarity to the sound, lets me push my mids and treble up without it sounding harsh, like it did with the vintage 30.
-
Electrovoice EVM12L 8)
-
Celestion G12H-30s with 55Hz bass cones do everything I need.
I've also got a pair of early 60s Alnico Blues and also some Goodmans alnico speakers that are very similar and have a gorgeous compression, well, before I blew them anyway, lmao.
Used to have some 50w purple-back Fanes which are the ones to have if you're a Fane speaker fan with a Hiwatt - some classic Live At Leeds tone going on with those babies. Shame Fane went tits up, I always wanted to try their 100w alnico speakers.
-
Scumback H75 (which is a precise late 60's pre-Rola Celestion G12-H30 copy).
I have tried a LOT of speakers, with a lot of amps, and the H75's are as near perfect for a "do-it-all" speaker as I have ever heard. Pity that they are just so damned expensive to import into the UK.
-
Eminence Texas Heat is my main man - but also have a 2x12 with G12H30s which I plug into occasionally.
-
Keep 'em coming!!
I'll leave it running for a few more days and then pull together the results.
To say that Celestions are running away with it at the moment is an understatement !
-
I've got V30's in my 4x12 and 1x12.
I was thinking about experementing with some different cones but 'can of worms' doesn't even start to cover it...
-
I have a V30 and a Fane Alnico in a 2x12 Matamp cab, gives me what i want. Have previously tried G12H, G12M and Hot 100's in the same cab, all were ok but didn't have the depth and attack i was after.
-
I've got Hot 100s in my 4x12 and 2x12, which I often run together as a 3/4 stack. Individually I prefer how my 2x12 sounds, despite the fact that it's got the same speakers in it, and is made from the same wood.
I like the Hot 100s because of the clarity of sound, combined with the rich bottom end I get using them. I used to use a 1960 lead A style cab with G12-T75s and they were so toppy, I felt like they were slicing my head off!
I've got an open backed 1x12 with a Vintage 30 in it, which is good too, but perhaps a little nasal, for want of a better word.
-
V30 and 'other celestion' - my uberkab has the normal ubercab config of V30s and G12Ts in X formation. I prefer the recorded sound of the V30s, so I suppose thats top of the list.
Getting some more G12Ts for my TSL602 off twinfan, so we'll see what happens there.

Well, folks - have to say that I was a bit surprised at the dominance of Celestion out there - for guitarists who are willing to experiment with the old pups you seem to be a conservative lot when it comes to speakers....
Celestion V30 - 22%
Celestion G12H - 22%
Celestion Others - 34.1%
Total Celestion = 78.1%
Jensen - 7.3%
Eminence - 7.3%
The Rest... 7.3%
Thanks for all your replies!

i'd gladly fit scumbacks, or other boutique speakers, but they seem a bit scarce in the UK - a good business for someone maybe?!
-
I suspect not....
The guy that I bought my Eminence Wizard from went out of business soon after I bought it.
I do have an Eminence Guv'nor if anyone is interested - 16 ohm - brand new.
-
I use a mixture of the following;
V30's - Bogner 4x12, Marshall 4x12 cabs and Blackstar 2x12 cab.
Celestion Gold - Bogner 2x12 and 1x12 cabs
Eminence P75 in VHT Pittbull
Reconned vintage 1x15 JBL in the old Vibroverb.
-
Sort of on topic....
Shop in Southampton got a few Eminence speakers on EvilBay....
