Title: New Guitar :0)
Post by: phlip on July 04, 2008, 10:36:24 AM
It's 20 years since I last bought a new guitar, that was until yesterday when I walked out of the shop with an Ibanez ART-500  I was willing to pay double what I spent on this but to be frank nothing up to double the price came close to the finish and build quality of this.

Do I have any gripes with it None of my guitars have the stock pickups so I'm fussy about that, the Actives in this have a stunning lead, sound and the neck and middle positions are lovely. Crunchy rhythm on the bridge doesn't do it for me as much but I haven't had much tweak time yet. everything else is just stunning for the price given you can pick one up online for 399 (I wouldn't buy a guitar online though EVER!)

Once it's a few months old and I'm happy there a no warrentyable issues I think it'll get a matched pair of black Rebel Yells in there, just like my Les Paul is about to get on Payday.

That's pretty
Kind of reminds me of the ESP Eclipse - maybe just because of the knob layout.

Nice purchase - enjoy!

Its odd reading northernisms on a forum. I hear them all day and never see them

("Nowt")

Anyway, dont be hung up about what you have and have not to contribute: just pile in, we dont bite.

Welcome... yeah, don't be shy - this is the friendliest forum I've ever been on. Watch out though, it makes you want to spend money!!! And not just on BKPs  :D EDIT: Actually, my last, most recent acquisition was MDVs fault!! (still loving it MDV (Tonelab LE) it gets better the more you find you way round it)

Very pretty looking guitar there.

For some reason nowadays, whenever I see the word "Ibanez" I'm expecting a pointy, flashy, super-strat, type of thing (not exactly my cup of tea), perhaps I need to re-evaluate my prejudices!! - that looks gorgeous.

I couldn't agree more, I've never been a fan of superstrat pointy jobs no matter how shredtastic they are i just don't get on with the looks, even if i do listen to the odd RaTT record for old times sake
I was very surprised to see the Ibanez on the headstock and even more surprised by the finish quality for the price.

I was about to ask the same thing Johnny, I love the Ibanez ART line. There is a semi hollow les paul shape that i am dying to get my hands on. How easy is it to get to the pickup selector though? I play my guitars lowish and that seems a little cumbersome.

Mmm - very pretty! Ibanez make some lovely 'regular' guitars as well as pointy stuff!

I was working my way through the Ibanez site the other day and I skipped the Artist range - I thought it was just the AR300 reissue and the ugly ARX models.  So I never even saw the ART500.

Nice guitar, very elegant!

It's different I'm used to just sweeping my hand up on my LP but tbh I'm not finding it an issue so far and there's been a fair bit of pickup toggling tongiht it's got a massive sustaining warm lead sound in the middle positon.
