Title: AII Mules?
Post by: fbloke on July 07, 2008, 10:57:14 AM
Hello everyone, I'm getting some Mules for my new Les Paul but wondered if anyone has tried AII magnets in them?  I use AII's in my 335 (Stormy Mondays) and other Les Paul (PG Blues) and love the roundedness of them.  I'm looking for a slightly "hotter" pickup to give the southern rock/early Billy Gibbons kind of tone, a bit ruder.  Are AIV's (as standard on Mules) good for this or can I stick with AII's and still get these tones?

Many thanks,

Mike.

I'd use regular Stormy Mondays I think.  Depends how 'zingy' your LP is.  If it's a bit dull, I'd go for AIV Mules.  I don't think AII Mules are a standard option, so they're probably not recommended by Tim.

If it's quite a resonant guitar I'd stick with the AII Stormies and crank the amp up like Billy does  ;)

i seem to remember tim saying a2 mules are only recommendable for strat-type guitars.

I have AII Mules in a PRS Hollowbody clone.   I picked them because the guitar was bright with the other pickups I had put in it so I thought the AII would mellow it.  It worked really well and I am very happy with the sound.  They are a little looser sounding than the AIV Mules and a lot less bright than the AV Mule.
