It's been ever-so-slightly modified, but you'd never notice:

Very nice... I'd snap that one up!
"Texas Chainsaw Massacre tribute strat" - pimped by leatherface...
-
I am looking for a strat but am at work and can't get onto ebay! What sort is it and how much is it going for?
-
Holy hack-a-doodle! :o
-
Nice!
I guess the guy couldn't find his router, so used a chainsaw instead.
-
Lovely pro job on that floyd installation. I'm quite excited by the 'sustain plate' device underneath it.

You really don't want to know mate! Mr Q is enticing us Fender-chaps in with tempting topic titles and then posting links to abominations (check other peoples comments!)
Starting bid £300 for an 80's (was it?) strat that has been modified in various ways unpleasant to me... not least the addition of a Floyd (which alone would stop me). The amusing part, once you can get over the Floyd itself, and various other niceties, is the "comedy-body-routing" that took place to instal said metalwork...
Thanks Philly Q - and there was I thinking, oo, he's got a strat has he, and he's only up the road....
-
jeebus that's almost as bad as my hand drill routing of a telecaster!
-
Shame about the "slight excessive cut away to rear body, where floyd rose fitted".
But fortunately it can be "easily covered with new backplate". Or a big black bin bag.
Why did he even need to rout the back at all? Unless... it started out as a hardtail :| :? :( :x
-
I can't quite tell - did he lose much of the fretboard when he was routing for the Floyd?
-

None for sale, Andy, sorry. In fact I may ( ) be on the lookout for another one, which is how I found that.... contraption.

That's a relief, I'm not actually looking! :D
We could probably sell you some bin liners though, if you decided to get that one as a "project" guitar...
-
and i thought i was bad at DIY... o_O

D'oh! I was sucked in there! :)
Sticking with the subject of strats though, I am looking for a USA Fender Strat and am looking at two on ebay at the moment: a 2004 and brand new 2008 model. I know they've just made a few changes but have no idea what they were! Does anyone have any idea which of the two is supposedly "better", or can you suggest which you reckon I should go for?

Me too - not for as long though. I knew what you felt like, often I can't see picture attachments at work.
Can't help too much on the strat question though - don't really know much about the modern US ones, I'm a 62 re-issue kinda-guy!
Wouldn't surprise me if Philly Q knew though... he's probably researching it even as I type :D

And here I am, rolling up like a bad penny....
I think the main difference between the new American Standards and the previous American Series is that the bridge now has vintage-style bent steel saddles, rather than the "powdered" steel block-shaped saddles which have been used for the last 20-odd years. The tremolo bridge still has two fulcrum points rather than the vintage-style six screws, though.
So it's still a "modern" Strat, but supposedly with a slightly more "vintage" tone.
Apart from that, I don't know if there are any differences. They might have tweaked the pickups a bit and they've probably changed the colour range like they do every few years.
-
^ yeah. i think they maybe changed the finish on the neck too.

Cool, thanks for the info! I've bought the 2008 standard strat in 3 tone sunburst with a maple neck. :D

Philly - I really wish you hadn't posted this! I was just getting over the need to have another strat and this topic comes along!
