Post by: Modular1 on July 10, 2008, 07:12:43 PM

As discussed many times, cover vs. no cover is a very minimal difference in sound. You get a little more prescence with open coils. Seen as the Warpig has no slug poles, the difference would be even smaller. I'd judge on aesthetics only and the get the black covered ones.

thanks.

i was leaning towards the open ones, but i spose the covered ones will add a more unique character. Choices choices.

The open ones could be mistaken for Duncan Invaders. With the cover, everyone will be sure they are Warpigs. (as if they wouldn't by the roaring sound)

I have the standard distressed covers in a matt black axe. They look awesome.

Black are good but distressed will really stand out. In a good way.

There's a difference in sound between open and covered but Tim has found a way to minimise the difference with a special wind.

For that guitar I'd get a pair of antiqued distressed covers (standard Warpig cover). It will look awesome and nobody wil masitake that pickup for anything else.

Couple of pics - ignore the slight differences in the pickups. The bridge was bought second hand and neck brand new, so the distressed finishes aren't entirely similar.

Still looks great though. I like the difference in colour.

Different covers are just asthetics. Covers in general affect the tone, but very minimally, and tim compensates, as ratrod said.

Different poles (screw, allen etc) affect the sound because of different metals and different field dispersion patterns.

Thanks!  It's my favorite and I love showing it off.  At the mere mention of battle worn black and warpigs it's piccy time!

the IT warlock was looking like id have to wait a while for it due to stocks. i just got some extra cash so im now looking at an even more posh one. hehe. so ive gone from looking at a £160 guitar to one thats nearer £500. Cheers guys :P

at the moment im thinking that the pickups that come with it (Rockfield Mafia and Fat Ass) look quite cool so if i replace them im at a loss of which style to get. I like the look of the black uncovered ones still. I think the 'mattness' of them suits the guitar (tho i was beginning to agree that the black covered ones would look better in the matt guitar.

Lazy That is one gorgeous guitar The SLSMG is definitely on my list now. PDT_003

What make of bridge is that you've got?

As Ive noticed the lack of inotation adjustment for heavier gauge strings with the sls I played.

The bridge looks like one of these:  http://store.guitarfetish.com/wibrrobrlost1.html
I got the guitar from ebay and the previous owner and his guitar tech made a few mods so I'm not sure if that's the exact one or not.
