So first there were these:

And then there were these:

And now these have appeared:

Where will it all end?

At least you can acknowledge the problem Dave - that must be the first stage of the cure!
Next stage is TwinGASoholics Anonymous.

Thinking about it, I don't have any identical twins in my collection, but I do have a few fraternal ones:

I thought this was going to be some adult content confession (it sounded like a good option to me!). Since it isn't though, I'll just say that even though they look the same, I am guessing that they don't sound and play the same, since they are different pieces of wood? I tend to go for different looks, coffee and cream rather than twins!!

Fantasy rather than confession, surely? :?
(unless Johnny Mac's in the vicinity)

You'd be surprised how similar they are actually, which is what I was hoping for. Very consistent, they were made a month apart so probably from the same batch of Korina. One has a two-piece body compared to the other's one-piece as well, and there's no difference in sustain or tone that I can detect yet. Perfect :)
Thinking about it, my first set of twins are now triplets...................

I was right!
You are a madman though... two of the SAME PRS!?
Why the desire for two of them? Simply because it's that good?
-
:o *gag's on his food* :o
Twin...you gotta problem :D

It's a pyschological thing. And yes, I know my head is screwed! I'll try and explain...
I've always liked the tone and simplicity of SGs/Miras but I've hankered after an all-mahogany LP for a while for that fatter tone. Lately I've realised that a singlecut doesn't do it for me, the lack of access annoys me. Plus I've always fancied a korina solid body too. Enter the first McCarty Korina, #1, which suited me perfectly. It's 'my' guitar. That particular McCarty (on the right in the pic I posted) has a lovely sweeping grain pattern and a one-piece body. It's quite distinctive and I love it to bits. I wanted to use it for gigs in my new band but I was very nervous of something happening to it. How could I replace it? Will PRS produce them for long? What if it gets damaged? I decided I couldn't risk it so I needed an alternative for gigging with.
Enter McCarty #2! I started hunting around for another one and was hoping I could find a used one in the near future. I ended up finding a seller on eBay who had one in stock down in Kent. Brand new, all the tags, cased etc for a CRAZY price. Roughly the same price as a new Mira and 2/3rds of the price I paid for my #1 :o I still don't know how he could sell it it so cheap.
An overdraft was swiftly arranged and the deal was done, after haggling him down a bit more (!) and going outside of eBay to avoid fees. #2 is slightly less desireable to me (two-piece body, plainer grain, slightly darker colour) but after a couple of little tweaks it plays and sounds identically to #1. Just the job for gigging with then! As I have #1 tucked away nicely, #2 will be used as Paul Smith intended and I won't have a heart attack when the dings and relicing appear.
Part of the deal to myself in buying #2 was that a couple of my other guitars had to fund it and pay off the overdraft. Watch out for a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat and Jackson Dinky up for sale soon.....
-
i was going to say, "you're mad", but then you said it's for gigs, and if it's for gigging that sounds sensible enough.
:)
Sounds like a good price too.
-
Cheers Dave. There is some logic there, but I'm expecting MartinW to give me a right bashing when he's back from holiday. He wanted me to just gig #1!
It was a cracking price. The same as buying a used one in the US and importing it :o

I need a band so I can start justifying things to myself and the other half with the word "gigging"

Oh, who needs to justify those things? Spend away!

Yeah, wot he says! :D
You'll make the rest of us feel bad if you start managing to justify things...
And by-the-by, I do understand your "addiction" Twinfan - when I was gigging I always felt more secure when I had a spare of everything ready when I walked on stage... (two guitar picks, two guitar leads, two pints, two towels, that sort of thing...)
EDIT: Not quite the same league, I grant you, but I still understand!! :D
-
Unlike the rest of you - I'm not so convinced.
Twinfan mate - You are indeed insane - But we love you anyway.

Oh and if anyone ever sees a McCarty Korina in Vintage Natural (like mine) with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, original style bird inlays and a one-piece body you let me know......

Funnily enough, I was at a car boot sale last week....

One has a different colour tone and volume control.
I think you should buy a 4th with the same colour controls. :D
have you got your band finalised yet? I know a good female rock singer that is looking in Manchester if you need one.
-
Cheers Matt, but we're sorted for a singer and the rest of the band. Currently going through rehearsals, got about one set's worth of stuff sorted. We're looking to start gigging in October time after our bass player has had his paternity leave...
-
No worries. keep me posted when you get up and running and I'll dig out my old faded Motley Crue T-shirt and come along to watch.
I notice you didn't say no to a 4th :)
-
Sorry late to post..your not mad, glad to hear bands working out.....and does this mean when bands up and running I can justify more guitars?
-

Never say never

Yep. Best way ever to justify guitars! I always buy a new one for a band I join.
-
Cool need a new one then *L*
-
I'm very shocked that your Jackson is going, I thought you liked that lots?
-
I do like it - a lot. But I need to finance the McCarty, plus I have the Kramer Baretta (and the odd Ibanez ) for any whammy duties. Plus I prefer a maple 'board on a superstrat.
-

Does it also work retrospectively?
If it does, I need to start joining/quitting/being kicked out of bands fast... I have about 50-60 guitars to justify. :(

yeah, that does sound extremely decently priced!
if i were gigging, i expect i'd have spares too. I guess that's one (dubious) advantage of not gigging... not having to buy two of everything.
-
If I was gigging, I'd rather settle for a less-than-perfect backup guitar than spend that much dough on something I already have, just to have it on a stand all the time. If I was a pro (or stinkin' rich) it'd be different obviously. But yeah, if you feel justified, and obviously you do, more power to ya. Congrats.
-

+1, I hate the feeling of having nice gear but nowhere but my room to play it.. I mean its fine having nice gear but somehow I feel guilty about not being in a band.
-
I tried using "lesser" guitars for gigging, but I get frustrated when they don't come up to scratch. I'm no pro, nor stinking rich, but Mrs Twinfan and myself don't have kids or expensive holidays so my spare cash goes on my toys. I've built up a bit of a collection over the years and some are leaving to make way for the new McCarty so it'll cost me nothing in reality.
A benefit of being a little bit older, having worked for a few years, and working up the guitar ladder I guess.

Don't feel guilty about it Tom - enjoy the kit you've got :)
Besides, you could look at it this way, I followed the link in your sig the other day, and listened to a lot of your recordings - thoroughly enjoyed them... Even if you're not in a band at the moment, you are "getting out" there with your music. :D
-
Nah, I reckon Dave's been working on his Photoshop skills...or else he is using mirrors.

come on, johnny's a normal guy - he just has one koch
-
Ahh koch jokes again *L*..think you have Koch envy

Was anyone else under the impression that Twinfan's name was to suggest he was a fan of the Fender Twin?
Things are beginning to make a lot more sense.
-
Yeah a long time ago asked him that *L*
-

That's what I assumed too actually.
-
A few people have asked that question, but I've never owned a Fender Twin. Nor GAS'd for one. It actually came from the love of V-Twin motorbikes, mainly Ducatis. Which are L-Twins, but we won't go into that now.
I guess I've justified it for my guitar collection now
-
And here was me thinking it was to do with two fans :x

Everyone should know that by now. The amount of times people have asked if its because of your duplicate guitars has yielded the same answer looots of times.

Nice guitars Twinfan!
I thhought the name came from your love of motorbikes with twin cylinders. Do you still have the Ducati?
-

i don't really have a problem with it... i'd love to be in a band (which played stuff i liked), but i'm not going to do without stuff i want just because i'm not.

You know I'm always impressed by your success with the ladies, Johnny. I thought you might have done the twins thing at some point.
-
Hehehehehehehehe nice guitars! Quite agree with the idea of get a "workhorse twin" :D
(and quite like the idea of twin sister too )
-
Just back off hol, and all I can say is:
Double-yew tee effing eff!!!
Mind you, at that price Dave, you'd have been crazy not to. Nice one
-

 I knew you'd have a pop! They are 'my' guitar though, and it was a SILLY price. You'll be pleased to know I'll be selling your least favourite guitars from my collection
-
i don't even like motorbikes, and that bike is awesome.

Selling...whats going

Selling...whats going
Gibson LP Standard and Fender USA Strat. Need to get some pics taken and then I'll put them up here.

Cheers Dave. It sounds better than it looks
-
-
I thought you'd gone and got TWO Fender Twins.
That would be a pretty serious addiction to twins...
-
Stupid question Dave, but on that Ducati do you know the seat height?
-
*L* they don't come in that size Gary
-
No idea matey - the info must be on the net somewhere? It's not stupid high, but it's not low either...
