Title: Strings
Post by: tomjackson on July 11, 2008, 05:06:01 PM
On the back of the Snake oil thread can somebody please explain the difference in string types...

Chromes
Steels
Nickel wound (what I have bought for the last 10 years)
Pure Nickle

Is this just the winding material on the lower strings?

How do they sound different?

Just read this:

I have spent many hours talking to Dean about strings so I know that he has done probably the most research of anyone on the subject.  You may want to take a look at the other articles, as it really will open your eyes up about the effect strings have on your tone.

I use the blue steel one's, I've found them better for lead guitar stuff! they are definitley brighter, not to everyones taste though. Flatwound one's are horrid
