only just got back from the tattooist so this is still very raw and overshaded, should settle down nicely in the next few weeks

just as i was finished the tattooist said he would rather have another 3 hours of tattooing done than wake up with tattoo leg in the morning - apparently its not a pleasent experience but he failed to mention that before we started
choosing the guitar was quite difficult - i was going to go with one of mine but once i knew what style i wanted the tattoo to be it just had to be a gretsch
-
Awesome tat, and yeah I think you made the right choice with the Gretsch - suits the style very well
-
A girl and a Gretsch.... Nice!!!
-
Cool tattoo.
Gretsches could very well be the most tattooed guitar.
-
hmm, looks like the lovely lady has farted and the guitar has caught fire... Nice though, i'm planning my first tattoo. Got a more elaborate one planned for one arm, but rather have a smaller thingy done first. easier to chicken out.

thx for that
-
I like your logo on that Gretch. Nice touch.
-
when i was going to get my first tattoo done i wanted my logo somewhere....1 full arm and half a leg later i have managed to work it in :D
-
Yowzer!
No-one can convince me that's a pain free event...
I like the Gretch, but you should have done one of yours. Think of the free advertising on your annual 2 weeks in the sun?
Mark.

my stuffs generally a bit too modern looking for the style of tattoo's i like- although there was talk of a matching blonde with a more modern guitar on the opposite leg
i am not going to try to convince anyone it doesnt hurt, it really does!! it is forgotten quickly though. the guitar will get strings and we may do more with the flames depending how it looks when settled in - 3 hours seems to be my limit and i really felt it today
-
I think the fan fret might have looked good, but you probably would have needed a more 'modern' girl! It does look a bit bright - but never having had a tatoo, I don't know if they all start like that. Glad you are happy with it - but does it mean no shorts to school :P

Glad to help! not my style but it's cool none the less.

of course it hurts, look, they had to sellotape his leg back on...
-
Interesting, now you can't wear shorts to school :O
also, you shaved your leg
-
Nice tattoo!!
Really like how "normal" is "have a tattoo" in england!
-
no i wont be wearing shorts to the day job... but i wont be wearing long sleeved shirts either
i did consider taking the fanned fret along as an example of what i was after but the tattooist was already worried that i might be after a photo perfect recreation of one off my guitars... he is good, but not that good! then you have to worry about the fact multiscale looks weird in real life... would just look like a bad tattoo when all is said and done, i was actually impressed by the fact he payed so much attention to fret spacing on this design
basicaly we wanted a bit of vince ray (hair and bold colours) mixed with a bit of vargas girl (damn sexy without going the lowbrow coop route (which i do quite like)) and a damn nice guitar thrown in the mix...
i gave ben load of ideas and took loads of pictures of pin-ups and guitars with me today because he was worried about getting it right. i needn't have bothered because i rejected all the stuff i had taken as soon as i had seen what he had drawn for me.... the only thing we changed is that he had lifted a big semi hollow gretsch from a vince ray book but i wanted a smaller solid body shape (actually chambered.. we chambered my leg today before starting). it was all abit last minute.. last night my fiancee said i should make it a 335... i didnt want a gibson on my leg but i did know what see meant and a gretsch is a lot more like the sort of stuff i would buy if i didnt make guitars... i actually have quite cheap grungey taste in guitars... cant quite build them that way though
i may have to make this guitar, a cherry red gretsch style single cut... i suppose i should get the DC finished first
-
i keep thinking about a tatoo, have done for the last 10 years or so. should probably go for it. i'd get a more fancy version of this on my upper arm:
-
there is a lot you can do with an ace of spades tattoo... it would be a good choice
-
lets get the clinf film off:

That looks great :D
Although damn painful i'm sure!
-
ah, that looks much better with the cling film off. Very nice! :)
-
I like the WV logo on the bridge...
-
Nice legs!
I mean the lady of course
