Anyone trying their hand at the Guitarist/Walter Trout competition?
I've had a couple of goes at recording something, and NOTHING is going right; either my setup is sounding like cr@p, or the muse had deserted me and I'm just throwing tired old blues licks at the track.
I reckon that my inspiration must be hiding somewhere. If anyone sees it can they please let me know?
Ta very much.
Mark.

Well where did you leave it? ( that would be the response of Mrs 38th if I told her I'd lost something). From which you can perhaps derive a way of rediscovery. Go bak to the last pice of music that inspired you(even if it is not appropriate) and see if it can kick start things.

Go out and find someone much, much bigger and stronger than you, slap them REALLY hard, then try and make it home. The thrill of the chase should inspire you to dizzying new heights of musicality.

Not a bad idea, although I'm about 3 stone over weight, and if God had wanted me to run he wouldn't have invented pork pies.

I'm the opposite- sorry to say. Every time i plug in i'm writing a new and cool sounding riff or chord progression. Maybe it's luck and boredom in my normal life helping me in the guitaring, or the fancy my band has shat the bed (again) and there is no pressure.
It'll come, just takes time. And luck. that helps

If I lose anything it usually ends up in the fridge except milk, which I put in the cupboard.
To find inspiration for the blues I suggest getting fired from your job, getting dumped and then losing all your money. Keep one guitar and one amp and see what happens.
Or go the Bob Marley route 8)

Learn new things.
Listen to new music.
Jam. The musical variety. Nothing you put on toast can help you.
Any of the above, or any combination.

I don't know, I felt a huge loss of inspiration without my Gibson XR1. It had more emotion, feel, and a sense of what was to be played than most guitars. Find the right gear?
Rather drunk, but I feel so inspired right now, had someone tell me that I am a waste of space, as well as having a lengthy chat with my ex's new guy.
next = guitar playing :P

I'll have a go at it, i remember reading about it in Guitarist.
Just try lots of different takes, a long sustaining wailing style could work well with this.

as strange as it sounds i say give up.
no seriously!
dont play the guitar, or think about writing for a few days, say 5 or so. Then when u get a few hours ideally, just sit down and play something off the top of your head. i bet you come up with something fresh.

I second this!

I'd basically get yourself motivated to feel better first before you even touch playing again, it's not always easy but as Andrew WK says you just have to KEEP GOIN! lol

Don't forget to party hard too!
I had a go at it a few weeks ago, I find that if im in need of inspiration, i just listen to a combination of SRV, Clapton, Bettencourt, Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher.
Works for me!
