Did this the other day with my Muled Epiphone but got the pig 90 now so thought I'd to this track as a bit of a comparison. The recorded sound seems to be quite similar, this is a bit rawer sounding especially when you dig in more :)

Playing isnt as tight as the last one I did though :x
Sounds much different in the room as well, I love it at the minute :D I think p90s may well be the perfect pickups..
edit - did a quick one in the middle position with the MQ neck on as well - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BV5PQPUL
Switched to pig 90 later on in that as well..

Stonerriffic! That thing really growls, I love it.
-
You just made me learn that song, it's brilliant. Ace tone too, gotta love that GH.
-
Great sound! Make me want a Pig 90 Les Paul
-
Man, I have got to get me a pig-90'd LP now, I have the same amp and would love to be able to get that kind of tone...the cab probably helps a lot too though; I'm not exactly running my GH50L through the best cab in the world...
-
Sounds good Tom and nice playing, I dont know the actual track but you've got the feel right to me :)
I am thinking of getting a tapped high gain p90 for my tele build and this helps confirm it could well be the way to go.
-
I think the pig 90 is great. As I've said before in full mode its pretty humbuckerish but a bit less compressed sounding and "raunchier" if that stupid expression makes sense  Very good for stoner rock tone, its got that sort of soft fuzzy bottom end that sounds good with thick fuzz yet still tight if you boost with an OD instead. Still havent wired up a push pull for the tap but I've ran it in tapped mode and it sounded good - same output as the neck MQ I have and twangier than full mode.
Zaphod what are you running your GH through? Mine sounds great through a tube-town british 2x12 with G12H speakers :) Whole cab only cost about £240 as well. I still gas for a 4x12 but theres no way I can justify that one (until I move out and have a downstairs music room so I dont have to lug it up/down stairs if I find a band!).
-
Sounds great Tom :)
The P90s have more low end fatness and thickness, with that fuzzy bottom end like you say. I personally prefer the 'bucker tone version as I like less fuzz and more clarity on my tone. However, the P90s are perfect for that stoner stuff!
-
God, I want a P90'd SG so bad.
I run my GH into a junky old 2x12 that I put some V30's in, I want a nice Matamp 2x12 but I don't see it happening for a while. I'm going to be ordering a G12K-100(or a hot 100, still pondering) tonight that I can fit into my AOR combo so I don't have to lug the 2x12 around everywhere.
-
I'm still thinking about getting a v30 to go with one of my current G12Hs but I dont know how it'll sound in a 2x12.
-
Should be quite nice Tom, if it's a closed back chunky 2x12 :)

I'm running it through the only viable cab I have at the minute: a Hartke 2X12 bass cab...I think it's one of the ones with paper cones as opposed to the aluminium ones but it doesn't respond very well to EQ changes so I've got to get a decent guitar cab. I think I might go with the speakers you have or the Laney matched cab; I'm not sure which.
-
G12H are good speakers - not sure if they'd be good if you crank it up all the time though as the GH puts out roughly 85w on full apparently and a G12H cab would be 60w. I never have it on full so it doesnt bother me.
Twinfan its not really a chunky 2x12 but it is closed back (well its actually flex-back with removable rear panel so you can choose between open and closed), the woods are 15mm birch ply and is made with a "semi resonant" construction whatever that means..
-
G12H and Vintage30 in a 2x12 is pretty sweet. But please note that although the V30 takes 60W, it's still a 60W cab (take the lowest wattage speaker times the number of speakers).
However I ran that combination with my 80W Shiva and no problems (never went to 10 though).
-
Yep I allready knew that :) Probably still a bit low wattage for the GH but I've had no trouble in the past with the cab I have due to never really putting it over 3

The Mule clips sounds better to my ears. Well closer to the original anyway.
-
Tom how do you play that first riff? Worked it out by ear but as you can tell from the Youtube Vid I haven't got it it too clean yet.
-
Its just based around a pentatonic box in F#, first position I think (I dont know which is first but its the "main" pentatonic box). I can tab it for you if you want.

That would be great, cheers. With the fingerings (chuckle) too, would be awesome!

E-----------------------------------------------------------------

D-------2-4---------4-2--2-4---------2-4-------2----2-4----
A-------------------------4--------------------2-4---4---------

the ^s are slight bends. Think thats about right

Nice one.
That's pretty much how I had it, but I was trying to put an extra note in between the 2 on the E and the 2 on the G for some reason. :? Sounds much tighter now, cheers.
-
I think I might sometimes pull off the 2 on the E to open, not sure really

Yeah just been experimenting with that and I think it's almost impossible not to. As long as you don't actually pick the note though it sounds pretty clean.
