Is there one BKP strat set that nail do these three guys tones?
I was thinking either apaches or Irish tours. What do you guys think?
Also would baseplates be a good idea?
Thanks
P.S. they will be going into an alder body, maple neck strat.

I expect that you will get a few replies suggesting Irish Tours or Mothers Milk. I cannot comment as I have neither ( I have tried out the MM's on a friends guitar and they were superb). Would I would say is that the Apaches put in a pretty good vintage Strat tone. The three players you mention have differing tones anyway . I had to play Little Wing at a gig recently and got a great fruity tone from my Apaches. Not a lot of help sorry.

Gulp, not too sure - I usually jump in with ITs can do that!! (or close)
But I'm looking at "Hendrix" in the middle there... OK I can get not too bad on ITs, but I believe there is probably a better BKP for it - I don't know which one though.
The ITs get me a lot closer to Knopfler and Blackmore if I want, but they almost seem too "hard" for Hendrix tones (in my hands at least).
Hopefully someone with wider experience of the different strat sets can help you...
EDIT: 38th has posted while I was dithering... "fruity" is a good description of what I think the ITs would be slightly lacking in.
-
Uhh, in reference to guitars, what exactly does "fruity" mean? :D
Sorry, but my guitar "tone vocabulary" is lacking and I was just wondering if I was missing out on something.

I've heard that Mothers Milk do the whole hendrix thing pretty well - Never played them though, no idea how well they'd do the others.
-
Kellar: fruity means that lovely rounded tone you get from a really good strat when using the neck pickup and indeed sometimes using neck and middle.
-
my MM's nail those tones for me in terms of Blackmore,Hendrix
..of course, I believe my amp has a lot to do with that as well...
-very robust and clean...sounds like a Strat is supposed to....NOT a cheap imitation of a humbucker...neck is perfect IMO...sounds divine thru my newly aquired Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah :D.....I am a Trower freak when I strap a Strat on, and the MM's do it for me!!

Mother's Milks or Irish Tours i'd say.
But the Hendrix Little Wing tone (i.e. the one he borrowed from Curtis Mayfield) is more to do with the amp in my opinion.

I'm glad you saw that question before I did!!
Yep, that is what I meant, but I couldn't have described it so well...
I'm at work, and 've got this Hendrix intro running through my head, I think it's "Wait Until Tomorrow"(?)... froootie :D

cant go wrong with the irish tours.

Seems like maybe I’m asking quite a lot from one set, I thought as much.
If it’s a choice between Mothers Milks and Irish tours, I’d say ITs are defiantly the front runner, as I’d rather be the slightly hotter side of the fence.
Plus a friend is willing to sell me an IT neck and middle for rather cheap, leaving only the bridge to acquire.
Would adding a baseplate to the bridge take me even further away from some of the lighter tones mentioned?

You, sir, have impeccable taste.
And that Strat looks awesome. I really want a 70s style maple-neck, it's my favourite Strat look (at the moment).
-
Irish Tours have a real grunt and grind to them that will help with those tones; but if you're wanting something slightly smoother more like a stock 60s pickup the Mothers Milk is that sound
Apaches are a 50s pickup essentially thus are heavier in the mids and sound really bubbly and sweet, too polite for anything your after out of your strat.
-
I'm no Strat pickup expert but I think you could mix n' match some different strat pickups.
Hendrix often used his neck pickup, Knopfler uses the middle alot and Blackmore is mostly bridge.

...ahh,thanks,dear friend!!I am going thru a re-discovery of Mr. Trower at the moment-I just picked up the remastered "Bridge of Sighs"(sigh...!)...a top 10 must have for all who rock!!
this is a Hendrix Woodstock Strat...it was made for a righty to play upside down, but I talked the dealer out of it(being a lefty, it fit like a glove!)the MM's are perfect in this particular axe-I am not sure of exactly what year this Strat is modeled after(60's obviously, but I forget what year exactly)

Ahh yes, now I get it. Although, fruity doesn't really sit well with me. I used to manage a produce store, and when I think of fruity I envision moldy strawberries and peaches. :(

Likewise - I haven't listened to it enough times yet, but it seems on first impression that the remastering has brought out little things I hadn't heard before on the older CDs. I don't normally have much time for bonus tracks, but the ones on this CD are awesome! :D

Ah, I knew it was a Hendrix one but couldn't remember if it was a Woodstock, Tribute, Voodoo or what (how many Hendrix Strats have Fender made? ). I suppose it's '68-'69 spec because it has the big black-lettering logo and, I think, F-stamped Schaller tuners? (I always call the big headstock "70s" but of course it started in the mid sixties  ).

..just did a little diggin'..it was a '68..great year,btw(my birth year!)
