Tim's voicing of the pickup is based on the Alman brothers version of Sormy monday blues, a song written by T-bone Walker in 1967.

The actual spec  of the pickup is very similar to the lower output PAFs and the patent no. humbuckers from the '60s.Very clean, clear and bright. My change is using an Alnico IV magnet rather than a V as was introduced in '61, it has a more vintagey vibe and is just so musical.

a lot of people here use the stormy monday as a neck pickup, and put something with a bit more power in the bridge.

Yeh, your right. The origional was called "call it stormy monday, but tuesdays just as bad" that was recorded in '47, it was then re-recorded under the title stormy monday blues in '67.

I use a Stormy Monday in the neck and find that the lower out put gives some of the sweetest tones from my Les Paul. Combined with a Mule bridge I have a very versitile guitar.

Chris.

I had a Stormy neck with a VHII bridge in my PRS for a while - very versatile!

Well almost, the wind is slightly different from one to the other but they're both Alnico IV based and plain enamel wire.

I have the Stormy Monday neck with Riff Raff bridge.  I also have the Mule neck with an Emerald Bridge. Both sets are in Les Pauls.  The Mule has a slightly more rocky tone, the SM can get almost single coil sweetness.  Think BB King's tone.  It can rock out too, but in a more classic way, Paul Kossoff rather than Jeff Beck!
