Do BK make single coil sized humbuckers and if so will they give the same humbucker sound, im not a full out metal head, but needs to be able to do some metal such as sabbath, and anything upto megadeth. Like I said I am not a metal head, but it needs to be able to do metal! Something similar to the hotrails, and would they be any good. Sorry to rush so much, almost going to purchase a blade r4
-
No, they do not make SC sized HB's
-
Get a Sinner, will melt faces at 10 paces. There is a clip in the players forum that showcases it's metal credentials.
-
linky?
-
k found it, there true single coils arent they? not stacked. Anyway would a stacked SC sound like a humbucker? Bearing in mind the blade has a onboard electronics...

I used to have a hot-rails many years ago in the bridge of a strat.
From my experience since, I would say that it sounded like a "humbuckerised strat pickup", not a humbucker - but memory might be playing tricks on me..
I got rid of it because, for me, it didn't sound enough like a strat anymore.
My gut feeling, on that experience, is that stacked singles sound fine if you want the sound, but they are neither "fish nor foul" when comparing them to singles or humbuckers... (I suspect that might be part of why Tim doesn't do them?)
I haven't heard Sinners, but everything I've read suggests that's the route I'd go if wanted to try the same thing again.
-
I've never felt that stacked single coils sound very good. Some examples sound quite like a humbucker, but a really cr@p humbucker =/
-
I've never really seen the point of any of the SC-sized humbucker designs:
None of the "little" 'buckers sound anything like as good as a full-sized humbucker
None of the "stacked" SCs sound anything like as good as a real single coil
IMHO 60-cycle hum is over-rated as a problem - I can quite happily live with when I'm playing a single coil
If I want a humbucker sound, I'll use a guitar with a humbucker in it
Even if I could only own one guitar, I'd commit suicide choose HSS config & live with the sounds I'd be missing. It's a total fallacy that one guitar can do it all.

I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man here but:
Can we get a sticky post or an anouncement on the main website that says: "BKP does NOT and will NOT make any single coil sized humbucker, no rails and no stacks. (and no actives either.)
I feel like there's alot of these questions popping up on the boards lately.
Oh, and what's the rush? GAS ran up to fever pitch?

+1 on everything there.
Try not to rush a purchase - you'll probably regret it.

This is Varknus we're talking about! I guess it'll be about a year or two before he actually wants to buy something, but can't make the trip over from the Isle of Wight because it costs too much.
Was my reply quick enough?
:D

lol dont be sarcy! Anyway I have brought it so eat ur words roobubba! I have brought a blade r4 from the early 90s, it comes with 3 single coils, but should be routed for HSS. If its not I am going to do need a metal happy pickup in the bridge. So Maybe the sinner, maybe a hotrail, or maybe something I dont even know about. Or maybe even I could get a luther to rout it? But could someone tell me how much this would cost, and also the blade has active electronics so I might need to be careful, but i suppose its do able? Anyway thanks
-
Put an Uber-Sinner with a zinc-steel base plate in the bridge.
And stand well back.
(Ever heard a single coil that can eat an EMG81 for breakfast?).
-
i could be wrong, but can't the active electronics on the blades be turned off? presumably that means it won't be a problem...
sounds nice, those older blades are meant to be great. :) The couple of newer ones I've tried have been pretty nice too.

Ahh....
I thought the thread said
NEED FAST REPTILES... NOW!
WTF?

Sorry guys, but I've lost the track about the UBER-Sinner? Is it a even more hot Sinner?

About the same as a warpig... so you could say that!
I've got one.
-
Mines 21k, zinc baseplate and it's brilliant.
-
What's a 'normal' Sinner then? The product pages says it's 21k also. Is it just the baseplate that pushes it into UBER territory.
I hate the mis-use of Uber. Never worked out how to do the umlaut and uber means over. Should be ober-sinner to be pedantic, ober means upper or superior. Though Ober-sinner doesn't have the same ring to it...
-
I'm pretty sure the Über Sinner is now the standard sinner, I think the sinner used to be 16K-ish and so many were getting it overwound that Tim just made the "Über" the standard Sinner.
Here's an email I got from Tim when I was originally asking about it
"Hi Baz,
Uber Sinner no problem-it's actually what we've been making as the Sinner for several years now!
SRV neck.........Mother's Milk!
kind regards
Tim"
