On the way home on the London Underground I saw a little snippet about this in a freebie paper. My eyes watered a bit.
Just been on the BBC news site watching all the pcitures http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7528165.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7528165.stm). I'm in floods of tears now.
That's a big chunk of my childhood gone, memories of my Nan, girfriends...
I can't believe how much this has upset me. If you'd asked me about Weston Pier yesterday, I'd have said "oh yeah, not my sort of thing, it's for the tourists..."
Obviously I really do "come from Weston" ... and I hadn't regarded it as "home" for a very very long time.

Tis sad. I remember it well from childhood and visits to WSM to see my Aunt.

yeah, i was a bit shocked this morning.  it was weird because i woke up to the news that there was a fire at 8 and the pier was gone by 9

I've never been there - I know Weston mainly as Ritchie Blackmore's home town - but it's always sad to see a piece of history disappear like that.  :(
