Wish I could have played like this when I was 13 8)

Come to think of it, wish I could play like that now :(. Guess I'll have to start practising 6 hours a day
-
I was trying to remember. And then I recalled that when I was 19 or so, I was fronting a band whose set-opener (written by me) had a second verse that started:
"Got my first guitar when I was fourteen
Played since everyday..."
So, umm, I believe my guitar ability at 13 was non-existent!
EDIT: Actually, "thirteen" would have been a lot easier to sing, but I was something of a literal git in those days...
-
I couldn't play at all when I was 13. And little has changed in the intervening 41 years, come to think of it.
I'll have to wait until later to watch the clip.

You seem to have aged drastically in the last week or two Phil!!
(13 + 41 = ....)
-
About as badly as I can now, still only know the same old chords.
Actually, I was about 16 when I took it up again and ended up giving my broken acoustic to a girl that I fancied. She can play better than me and she gave the gauitar to her little sister...... who can also play better than me and is now a singer/song writer between the UK and US.
I suck :D

Aged... and developed Alzheimer's.
Make that 31 years....
-
Nope... 16/17 when I started and still terrible.
-
Come on guys, you're all too modest and doing yourselves down...
(Probably makes you nicer people though... :D)
Rock n Roll's all about bravado and socks down the underpants
I'm BRILLIANT - (and I'm sticking to that until I finally get round to making some clips and posting in the Player's section, then I'll be all "sorry for the atrocious playing, dog ate my chord-book, etc")
-
Bah, more boring PRS-toting fretw@nkery.
*secretly jealous*
-
A thirteen-year-old with a PRS??
dear-oh-dear...
(I'm in the same boat as Philly - have to check it out later)
-
That's insane. His tone is shocking but he is getting a new amp lol
I didn't even start til 15/16 i don't think.
-
IIRC I was halfway through Chapter 2 of Bert Weedon's "Play in a day" :)
-
I was just about playing Status Quo and a few Hendrix licks at 13.
He's a great player ins't he?
-
only started playing in my 20s(!) by the looks of it, maybe i should have started earlier
-
I didn't start playing until I was 15. That was when I got my Vox Clubman and Fenton Weil amp. My mate got a Vox Clubman bass. At thirteen I was into model railways!
-
Didn't start till I was about 22... :(
And then lent my guitar to someone for over 12 years... :(
-
better than i can play now!!
-
I'll never be technically as good as him, but being a technician, is not the same as being a musician !
I hope this kid can develop the same level of musicality as he matures, to match with his undoubted technical ability.
Personally, I didn't even play until I was 18.
-
I started when I was 11. Back then I actually played songs. Don't know what went wrong.

+1
Also good to hear this guy wants a proper amp, none of that high gain bollocks :P

Whilst on the subject of young guitar vituosos, here's a 12 year old Derek Trucks playing professionally. I believe he started occassionally 'sitting in' with the Allman Brothers Band at this time! ( Sheesh the SG looks even bigger on him than Angus )

and a 12 year old Joe Bonamassa with Danny Gatton

Well he is impressive at 13. I started at 15 and I don't play like he does now.It isn't in my mindset to play like that but the boy clearly has a gift and full credit to him for getting up off his ar*e and doing something for himself. He reminds me of my son at that age who worked his nuts off to buy a decent piano as I was unable to afford it and ended up as a superb musician. I hope the boy gets his Marshall. If I were his father I'd be right proud.
-
I started when I was 13 (and gave up when I was 18) and I it was a damn sight easier back then - all you had to play was Back in Black, Substitute and New Rose and you were a guitar god. Now that wouldn't get you into the back room of a guitar shop without some 11 old Yngwie alike laughing at you.
-
Woof!! I've seen it now - much respect to him (and I withdraw my earlier "13-year-old with a PRS?!" seeing as he bought it himself!)
Seems like a nice chap as well, hope it all works out for him :D
-
Cracking stuff.
I'm sure that there are many of us here who can remember this the first time around:

... I certainly do. Amazing talent for people so young.
Mark.

I think I had a guitar at 11. I can't remember, but I barely ever played until I was 18 because I was too busy listening to techno and hip hop. Then I heard Led Zep's Achilles Last Stand and wanted to learn it; it totally kicked my ass, so then and only then did I really start practicing.
-
He is good isn't he! Did you notice his eyes eyeing up the coins everytime there was a chink of money in the case!
Well all I could play at that age was the James Bond theme tune on an old acoustic with 4 strings hacking away with a victorian penny used as a plectrum :?
-
OK, I watched it, and he's terrific :). But you know what I'm going to say, I'd rather hear him with a band behind him playing some proper songs.
Hope the local chavs don't take it into their tiny brains to rob the lad, now that the BBC have thoughtfully broadcast how much his PRS cost.
-
If not the chavs then certainly the taxman
-
At 13 I could play better than Ritchie Blackmore...
He couldn't play "Smoke on the Water" till he was 27!
-
I was amazing
I could play every solo on Appetite for Destruction on a tennis racket
-
Damn good, I'd say. He should have a future in the business, let's hope it dosn't swallow him up.
-
I started when I was 13. I will never forget it because the first riff I learned was "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It's the only thing I learned to play for the next 2 years. Needless to say, I mastered it!
-
He is incredible. His technique is very good. But i was in a music shop with him the other day, and as much as i hate to belittle a fellow guitarist, he's not even slightly modest. He is on the other hand very fast. Really quite fast.
-
must be a nice area round there - a 13-year old with busking with a £3000 guitar in Newcastle wouldn't hold onto it for long, he'd be mugged no problem.
-
he'd be lucky if he made a tenner in Liverpool, the homeless guitarists seem to make about 5p an hour, but they only know 1 chord and sing the beatles or oasis (you so don't sing manc songs to scousers!!!)
there is one person who actually gets a crowd watching him, he's got a metal hand and plays lots of led zep

Right or left? (I can guess)
