First one I have seen on Ebay. What a beauty!

7.2 pounds? That's the lightest LP I've ever heard of. I know it's chambered, but it must be completely hollow!
-
That's not a "Les Paul 2008"- it's just a regular old-style one that was made this year
That is ridiculously light!
-
its certaintanly not a 2008 standard because they come with a neutrick jack socket and an asymmetiric neck profile and a bloody wierd CNC neck join which i quite like

..this is , supposedly, a cavity shot from a new Standard

hell, at least you can follow the circuit board..... why not
i just had to edit my previous message because i am quite drunk

here,here...I am getting there myself!!!! :D

After reviewing the Gibson website, that is definitely not an 08 LP. That Desert Burst finish is astonishing though.

Looks interesting. Wonder what those custom made pots will be like...

It does look interesting. A bit tricky to modify significantly unless you take out the whole thing though.
And no shielding. Lazy corner-cutting gits.

Not at all convinced that this is a good idea Mr Gibson...
I'm a Line6 Variax user (although I haven't plugged one in since I started buying BKPs ), and yeah sometimes the computer itself might blow, and the piezos can die, but most of the Variax "reliability issues" seem to be down to...
....badly seated connector plugs and dirty plug connections...
As long as the cavity in that LP is hermetically sealed, and the user doesn't intend to move the guitar about at all, then it will probably be perfectly reliable for gigging...
Nice idea, but people will rip that lot out and put the old stuff back in the minute guitars start failing in front of audiences. Also, what are replacement pickup suppliers going to do about the connectors? Reminds me of when IBM's new PC turned out to be non-IBM-compatible and we all fell around laughing and started buying compaqs, dells, etc, etc... not as bad as that, but reminds me of it :D

I'm hugely disappointed if that is what the cavity is going to look like. For me, Les Paul's are all about their vintage vibes. That's where the mystique and beauty of the instrument lies. If they are going to throw all that cr@p in the new Standards, you can forget it! :(

...seems like they are going to be offering different GIBSON pups in a plug and play format.
