But it is kinda justified...
Just ordered an Ashdown "Essex Blonde" and I'm really hoping the place gets it to me, as I'm sure these'll be out of production soon. Basicly I'm quite sure it's a C7...as in Matamp C7 in the same way that the JTM-45 was kind of a bassman. And it's £350... but get this, Ashdown are rebranding to the name "hayden" and selling the same thing at £750! Cheeky barstewards, so the way I see it, this will be an investment. In 20 or 30 years time it'll be a "rare ashdown badge" essex blonde, and it should sound bloody cool.

I better keep my mouth shut

Do tell, old gent...

Now I'm curious.
-
is it named hayden after HJM?
-
Nah..but I'm going to be winding the Ashdown boss up next time I see him!
-
Howcomes?

It's a Matamp rip off as are all their designs pretty much............did I just say that

I think you did ;)
Then again Mesa and Marshall where rips of Fender I suppose.
Kilby...

Everyone magpies to a greater or lesser extent, it really depends on the degree of malicious intent and greed there is behind it.Jeff and co at Matamp may well not be the most organised of folk but they work bloody hard at what they do and don't deserve to be ripped off wholesale.
-
its all good, as long as yu like the sound!
-
As they say theres nothing new under the sun, all amps are baised on what has went before (to some extent).
It's how you do it really, there is a huge difference between improving (or should I building upon) an existing design and simply ripping it off wholesale.
Sometimes I wonder how similar the DSP code in the moddeling amps are ;)

very good point, i bet its all nearly the exact same!
-
How can I put this.....yes it's a C7.......
-
the C7 ain't a bad amp, it got guitarist's gold award didn't it?
-
I feel like I've just bought a bent TV now. Those chaps at Ashdown are very, very naughty. At first I thought it was some kind of lisencing thing, like how Warmoth are lisenced to make replacement Fender necks.
-
The whole situation is very sad especially for the Matamp boys, doing design work for other companies leaves you open to having some of your own work ripped off.Business is a skill whereas design is a talent born of hard work and there's alot of talentless 'entrepeneurs' making alot of money exploiting the talented few in this business  .At least you got a great amp at an excellent price though which is something, I wouldn't feel guilty about that, it's Ashdown/Hayden or whatever monicker they're trying to hide behind that are the guilty party.
-
A lot of the first ones (50) were built by Matamp, and you can buy them for less than Matamp sold them to Ashdown for.....there's an Essex Slag somewhere...the boys couldn't resist renaming one.
They're grreat amps for the money, I wonder why the blonde didn't get a gold award when the C7 did?
-
Yeah, it's a cr@ppy deal to be sure, I'll be sure to unscrew the Ashdown logo when I get it.

i think we all know the answer to that one. its bloody ridiculous!

Well, it came, and I gotta say I'm really knocked back by how good an amp I've got, especially for £350. And to Ashdown's credit, they got a manual and footswitch to me within 24 hours of calling them. Word on the street is only the first 50 they've made are "Ashdown" amps. Loudest 8 watts I've met too, I'll have the old bill around if I keep cranking this thing.

It'll do 118db into a 4x12...!
The only problem is Ashdown have really hurt Matamp's sales, as they are selling the Essex Blonde less than they pay Matamp for them!
Good investment for you though!
