Hi all,
Couple of pics of my newest accquistition (and last for a while). It's a PRS SC245, in black cherry with a flame 10 top. It's a 2008 model, with the outline birds. Haven't had a chance to play it a great deal yet, because I've been very busy with family stuff, but from what I've heard so far, it has the old school Les Paul sound down really nicely. It sounds great for blusey stuff - you can get a really nice Joe Bonamassa sound from it, and it's right at home with ZZ Top too. Like I said, haven't had much of a chance for a proper test drive yet, bus as soon as I do, I'll report back. Excuse the quality of the pics, they were taken very quickly, and Photoshopped even quicker!

I can't stand the PRS singlecut shape, but the colour is hot. That will catch some eyes that's for sure.

What is it about these guitars that everyone wants? I can't see it?
-
They are nice but just missing something for me
-
I personally don't like the tone of maple top guitars so Iwouldn't buy one, but I think the SCs look superb :)

I can't answer for everyone, but for me it's a combination of tone, build quality, playability and aesthetics. I know they have a bit of a reputation for too much 'bling', but every one I've ever picked up has impressed me as a player's guitar first and foremost.
I don't go for the very gaudy tops with gold hardware - they're not my bag, but I think guitars like the SC245 I have strike a pretty decent balance between pretty and being workhorse instruments.
I also realise they come in for some criticism for being expensive (sometimes prohibitively so), but a decent Gibson LP isn't cheap. I looked at a bunch of LPs as well, and the only one I played that even came close for me in terms of sound and playability was only £50 cheaper, and had finishing flaws and the upper strap button misaligned. I'm not saying all Gibsons are like that, but the only one that felt 'right' for me had flaws that I was not willing to accept on a £2,000 guitar.

good god that is lush.
i don't know what to get now a Gibbo 59 reissue (with mules), organic classic, or a PRS SC245
its such a hard life :(
-
Go for the Organic imo.

Nice guitar...
Dunno what the pickups in the 245 are like, I know that swapping the HFS & VB out of my CuRo 24 was like night & day!!

Pickups in the SC245 are pretty low output, and tonally very similar to PAFs/Mules. Compared to my Mules, perhaps a little more midrange from the bridge. They are some of the nicest sounding pickups I've heard. Somehow, I don't think I'll be Bareknuckling this one!

What did you replace your PRS C24 pickups with? What kind of music do you play and what amp(s) do you use?
Just asking 'cos I'm thinking of doing this as well on my PRS C24. as I am so happy with the PGs in my Tokai LP.
Concerning PRS - Gibson debate - which sounds better to you and which action is the most adapted to you style of playing. If you haven't played a PRS - even a SE Korean model - try it out then go see the bank.
I love my Gibson (and Tokais) but I find the PRS sound, attack and action different and that justifies the extra also enables you to individualise your sound (as do the old fingers eheheh)
My PRS Hollow body through a Koch (Clips on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwauuoOa2Rk)
gives me a more original sound than Gibson, better sustain and expression.
But I still am mad about my 335 or My LP! And the 24 fret neck on the CS 24is different from the 22.

I wish PRS would do an SE mira, I'd buy one if it had a satin finish, or was available in a nice gloss black.

Nor me, but then I've never clapped eyes on nor played a PRS I've liked at all.

This hits it on the head for me. I feel completely at home playing my PRS guitars, they seem to lend themselves to my playing style really well. The Gibsons I've played (and I've played a fair few, including a Custom Shop Jimmy Page) just didn't seem to suit me quite as well. Funnily enough, the nicest Gibson I've ever played was a mid-70s Black Beauty that belongs to a friend of my dad's. It was a simply glorious sounding guitar, and it played really nicely as it had just had a refret and full setup.

It's whatever floats you boat, I guess. Some people just don't like them, and I wouldn't ever tell anyone they're wrong because they don't like them. But I'll happily set out my stall as to why I like them!

Where and when do we get to hear some sound clips.
Very very nice

Cold Sweats, as per Tim's recommendation actually. I'm a metaller primarily, and my amp's a Diezel Einstein although for one reason or another I've only put my PRS through it a couple of times since the upgrade. I didn't want to put in pups that changed the guitars overall character - the bridge position is now really punchy (HFS was a little loose) and the neck position is a lot sweeter without having lost the other 5 way tones. Guitar's vibe is definitely ROCK, it's kind of shouting out for a 50w JCM800 to make noise out of!

Cheers man. I run it through a Mesa Boogie 5:50 Express head and Roadster 2x12 cab. It gives one of the nicest sounds for blues I've ever heard.
Sound clips are a bit of a problem at the moment - I don't even own a microphone! That is something I'm looking to fix in the next few months though, so as soon as I have, you guys will be the first to know!
