Korina V to 58 specs in white.
Its very nice, sounds so full, but missing the LP thing that I love. Pickups could probably do with a change to be more appropriate, but its acoustic sound is awesome.
Also extremely light, and remarkably well balanced
Need to change the string gauge at the moment too, I think it has heavy 9's on, 10-52 should really fill it out
Well, waddaya think then?
-
i like a lot but i think you need a white korina explorer to go with it ;)

+1.
I'd love a V and an Explorer... Really would.

the lining of that case makes baby jesus cry :(

What year is that Will?

What year is that Will?
I get the feeling this is going to come under scrutiny, as you are building a Korina V replica?
(its not a gibson :P )
-
I didn't think Gibson ever made a white Korina V.
Is it an Epi? Edwards? Tokai?
-
They did in early 1980s but they cost a few grand
They did limited numbers of white, red and black as well as natural
I have a red one that belonged to my late colleague Chris
-
Gotcha - cheers Jonathon. I didn't know that.
I wonder what Will's is???

:D
UK luthier

very nice! who made it? :)

Siggery, an ebay purchase

siggery?

she looks sweet. buying a V is always a very wise choice :) hopefully she plays and sounds as good as she looks... sort of classic and 80s at the same time.
edit: was thinking over night that would also have the right look for teh br00taz

Just me or are those prices crazy cheap?
-
Wonder if it is a guy called Marty - works for FCN music
Think it is a side line to his day job
But why is he putting Gibson logos on stuff?
Very risky business - big companies will clamp down on that

If Will got the guitar off eBay, it may not have been Siggery Guitars that put the logo on, but the previous owner?
-
Siggery have Gibson logo'd guitars on their site!
Unless it was all pimp jobs on existing gibsons
-
Looks good to me!
It had me fooled for a real Gibson, even though on close inspection some of the construction details don't look quite right.
-
It was from Marty himself.
I also thought it risky, thats why I didn't say too much, but the pressure! the pressure!
-
i've been growing less and less keen fake headstock logos as time goes on. a guitar maker/manufacturer should be proud of their work. and a player should be proud of playing what it is, after all - they know ;)
anyway, if it plays and sounds well, nevermind i suppose. are you still happy with the instrument, after playing a bit?
-
Yeah it does play and sound great, but work is a bit hectic at the moment, and time is not a plenty; its been a few years since a V has been on my lap, and I don't have the time or energy to get used to it :( I just end up picking up my Gibson.
Its so torturous :P all day I ponder whether its worth selling as it doesn't suit my mood at the moment, but would I regret it later?
The logo doesn't bother me either way, but it has that 2 hole truss rod cover... heavenly.

It's the details that count, isn't it? :)

Also looks like the 3D logo on those two. Are the new ones just silk screened on?
*Oh, look how expensive those ones are compared to what I am offering :P *

normal gibson USA Vs are the '67 shape, with silkscreened logo on truss rod cover. i would hope a custom shop '57 replica would have a 3d logo too. the epiphone version has a sort of 2d metalic sticker.

Very nice, but I'd rather have one with a natural/transparent finish - korina's far too pretty for a solid colour.

yeah, i saw two in tokyo of the 82 version in natural for about 800 quid each. but i'd just brought the feline and couldn't take another massive purchase, so got the considerably cheaper burny les paul instead. still sort of regret it... nevertheless phil and jonothan both tried one of the 82 versions and say they aren't all that which compensates for my feelings of regret.

You know you want to!! :D
I know the pictures will be gone soon, but that first white one on ebay, the one that's been refinished white, because the original owner had stripped it back to the Korina... I actually preferred the picture of its previous natural look that he posted. I don't know why, but white guitars just don't move me...
EDIT: Ah, Philly's posted the same sort of sentiment - could it be because we are/were Andy Powell fans? :D

Could be - although Mr P has mostly played '60s mahogany ones of course.
And I'm still very much an Andy Powell fan - though I can't quite get used to the fact that he looks like a slimline James Whale nowadays:

I have an 82 Heritage one here in red.
Used to belong to my workmate Chris
To be fair I don't like the feel half as much as what I make
I could rework this one to feel great with a refret but vintage values and all that dictate that I mustn't

It has a stereo jack + fishman bridge installed, how do I get sound out of it?
I think its wired up atleast

I think you need one of the following:
- stereo "Y" lead and two separate amps;
- stereo lead plus an external processing box like the Powermix or Powerblend pedals;
- onboard Powerchip to replace one of the guitar's controls - lets you send piezo, magnetic or a mixed signal through a normal mono lead.

Just noticed this thread and would like to say that I DO NOT put Gibson logo's on my guitars. The Gibson logo'd guitars on my site are restorations and the V in question was a trade in that I accepted and the customer I took it from had put that logo on it, which was also stated in the listing when it was sold on ebay

Hey Marty
Glad to hear that you dont
Much better to stand by your own good workmanship
I have one of your guitars here - a Walnut bodied super-strat with a reverse Ibanez style headstock
Nice bit of walnut - fairly weighty , but choice timber
-
Hi Jonathan
Good to hear from you
That Strat you have is ancient, hope its still holding up ok? It must be 15 years or so since I put that together. Hope business is good for you. I think I need to change my site around a bit and make it more obvious that the Gibson's are refinishes and not fakes.
Keep up the good work
