Just curious as to how they sound?
-
A member of my site's forum, ozzuk, reckons they're awesome for metal and shred - he prefers them over marshalls, and he's a real gear nut (he recommended me Bareknuckles 8) )
-
i've played a few of them, and in general, they are very nice and I'm quite impressed with the ones i've played (a screamer combo, and a head which was a powerball? i think), but i think their ultra-high gain settings are a bit too brutal and harsh for my taste. there was a website with a lot of audio demos of them, and other "boo-teek" amps, but atm i can;t seem to find it. sorry friend!
-
http://www.rocksolidamps.com/sounds.php is the site.
I've played the screamer combo and think it's great... there was a thread on them a few weeks ago.

thats the one!!!

I've played a Screamer combo and it's the best and most versatile amp I've ever played. It has 4 channels (Clean, Crunch, Soft Lead and Heavy Lead) and they all sounded awesome. I was able to get lovely cleans, Vox-ish tones (nothing beats an AC30 though) through to soaring leads and serious chunkage :D. My playing isn't up to much so it sounded way better when one of the shop salesmen let rip. You can get them for £650ish too and IMO that's one hell of a bargain. They're well worth a demo or ten.
-Danny :D

Cook guys, I'll check 'em out! PDT_002

Tim, all of the harmony parts on my album were tracked using an Engl preamp/ Marshall EL34 100/100 power amp combo. It has a great, modded Marshall sound. VERY power metal!!!
-
couple of words about the powerball:
BEST amp for metal EVER.
IMHO of course
-
nahhh; best amp for metal is blatantly a diezel VH4 (played one at LGS, and i could actually have creamed my shorts there and then)! or a framus cobra; they're pretty gorgeous; lots of yummyness there!
-
yeah, i know a few people that swear by engl. their "tube classic" series seems to REALLY have the classic rock/crunch/blues kind of vibe, really good.
-
I wasn't that taken with the Diezel stuff, not my type of thing anyway....aesthetically I thought they were impractical especially for a live situation where simplicity is paramount.................knobs for days is just asking for disaster...............more importantly the tone wasn't there for me but I'm sure they're great for alot of players.I know the guy who designs them, awesome guitar player and really nice guy...........funny enough he likes lower gain amps :D
-
Well guys, on your recommendation Dave at Oxford Guitar Gallery has come up with a 2nd hand mint Screamer combo for a bargain price. As noone deals with them anywhere near here I'm taking a chance on it but nothing ventured, nothing gained(talking of gain........... :D )!Arrives Tuesday so I'll report back on how much of a gain monster they really are!

Koch Powertone II all day long for me!
-
I've heard a Screamer being used live. Good sound but I think it needs an extra speaker cab to get the maximum out of it.
-
tim, did you listen to the powerball clips on rocksolidamps?
especially the BLS one .. KILLER tone
-
I'd love to get meself an ENGL, if only I had the cash to afford a head and cab :(
Andy!
-
I was very lucky, I got an extremely good deal from my friend Dave at Oxford Guitar Gallery so I'm pleased about that.
Live I'll still use my JCM800s as that's me tone really, I just wanted a specific high gain amp for p/up testing along side my Marshalls, also something for the trade fairs too.
I'm really looking forward to it. 8)
I used to tour Mesa's years ago but since going back to Marshall some years ago I've found it hard to deal with their weird mid range, also I had quite a few reliability issues too so this time I fancied a change!
-
I've been thinking about trying a Powerball, my JMP-1 sometimes sounds too clean if you can believe that, especially with the Les Paul.
-
I'll let you know how I get on.
-
Cheers Tim.
Had a tweak again with my settings last night and the pups sound great, the neck pup has tone to die for, I must get my warranty card off to you
-
Tim, if you dont like it, I'll take it off your hands for £100 and a Curly Wurly
-
Curly Wurly! Now you're talking
-
Could even throw in a Chomp or a Freddo frog if you like
-
Actually, if you do want to get rid of it in the new year, give me a bell.
Andy!
-
I haven't even got it yet  give us a chance
-

-
Stop by the stand at Music Live in November and you can play through all of them as well as alot of my geetars too :D

The band necrophagıst use ENGL powerballs. Before you have a lısten they are a tech-death band. I absolutely love their tone, as i like to describe it liquid gain!
www.necrophagist.de check out the song stabwound.

nice, thats the amp Primal Fear use...
i like the Fireball the best, its the ultra brutal all slaying hi gain monster of the engl range... was going to buy one but went for a JCM 800 off Tim :D
-
Tim,
I have an Engl SE (the midi head), and it is absolutely awesome. I A/B'd it with my friends JCM800 into a Bogner 4x12, and it got VERY close using the crunch channel. The lead channels are ultra heavy and can get a great saturated, singing, sizzling fat lead tone too. Just an overall amazing amp! Just so you know what I'm comparing it too, I have a Diezel Herbert and VH4.
HTH,
Angus

Dragonforce of death metal??? Not sure if I get what you mean there..
Necrophagist use Engl rack stuff, it's in the gear FAQ of their forum... (it's a sticky at the top)

from listening to the clips off the webshitee, id say he meant they are a very fast and VERY widdly band but less fancy pancy gay :P
-
I have always loved ENGL amps - they have a great tone that really penetrates well. At Guitar shows you can hear their tone a mile off.
The Scorpions use them now and then as well as Ritchie Blackmore
Even Geoprge Lynch used to use them for a while

I have been using Camino from Firefox for a while now- maybe I should look at Safari again
I find camino very good though- gave up on IE long ago

Beyer's Music. Great shop. Bought a DeArmond M-77T from them a couple of years ago for a very friendly price. They always have some special, rare and still fairly cheap guitars in supply.

Hit the nail on the head there
