Title: NAD - Wilsic (Miles Platting) content
Post by: hamfist on August 11, 2008, 09:42:27 PM
Just won this really interesting amp on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150279869770&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005

I think I got a bit of a bargain. The amp is identical to the Miles platting V50, as far as I can tell.
They seem to have a reputation for being built extremely solidly, and being very clean - something like a Fender pre-amp into a tube-rectified EL34 Marshall power amp.  The transfomers seem to be the size of brick outhouses as well - all bodes very well !
I've really missed having a hand-wired amp to tinker with, since I sold my Ceriatone Plexi. SO now this new amp will double up as a back-up amp, and also as tinker material for the long winter evenings.

ANyone even heard of them before ?

Never heard of it but 200 pounds for a handwired tube amp in working order can't be so wrong.

Curious to hear your verdict!

I agree, you can't go wrong at that price - even if it doesn't sound THAT great, for not much money you could modify the hell out of it and turn in into something amazing.

Mark.

the Miles Platting stuff has a bit of a following and looks well built from what I can recall.

never seen a Wilsic amp though, might be an ex-m/platting employee if the build quality/layout is similar.

since its PTP, you will get plenty mod milege out of it too.

Wilsic Sound used to actually build the Miles Platting amps, apparently. I have compared gutshot's of the wiring and transformers of the amp I am buying with those of a Miles Platting V50.  Visually, they are identical.

For £200, I'm a happy bunny at he moment !

I may well mod it to 1987 or 2204 spec eventually, though. All depends what I can get out of it in standard spec.

Looks interesting.  Cheap as chips too, you'd pay that for transformers!
