Title: Paypal fees etc
Post by: Woogie on August 13, 2008, 09:40:28 PM
Just listing my amps now, I`m gonna put something along the lines of "NOTE: postage is slightly higher to cover paypal fees - if you wish to have lower postage please pay by cheque and I will lower the postage"

How much should I increase postage by to cover the paypal fees of a £475 item?

I can't be bothered to look up the exact percentages, but if you receive £475 the PayPal fees will be just over £15.

Whether or not a buyer will be prepared to pay an extra £15 is another matter...

Paypal must be totally raking it in. They do essentially **** all and levy extortionate charges for the privilege. Sickening :(

Sorry I can't help with your query, Woogie

It's ridiculous that paypal is compulsory

Yeah Woogie I doubt a buyer would be too chuffed with having to pay your Paypal fees!

I stated I don't accept paypal and the buyer can pay the fees if he/she chooses to pay via paypal. If they don't like it, they don't have to bid!

I have a hunch eBay may cancel your auction if they see that in the listing...

Ah that's fair enough.

+1 with Indy though, Ebay might not like it. Should be alright though.

I've done that before and didnt get the listing pulled so you should be ok with that.

Ebay are idiots they already pulled my amps off before with no reason even after 20 mins on the phone!

Well its obvious what the reason is.
£15 PP fee's isn't that bad.
or just do the £3 E cheque option as compulsory, but don't dispatch until it clears

It's a nice double earner for ebay - the fees they charge and they own paypal as well, it has to be the best business idea ever!  :x

What's that? Zilla music have sold many many amps and cabs and speakers and all sorts, there is no reason why they should pull his listings.

Yeah, some people get away with it. Just because someone else gets away with it, doesn't mean you will :P

do the £3 e cheque thing anyway

ebay put a notice out a long while ago stating that it is not allowed for the seller to levy the paypal fees onto the buyer.

seems ebay can do what they want, ebay has such a massive audience. Nowhere else is worth bothering with and they know it.

We'll see if they catch on. It's ridiculous making paypal compulsory!

you wil just have to accept paypal fees as part of the ebay selling process and build some of it into your 'standard postage rate' or add £5.00 for packaging the amp. I personally would not pay a seller's paypal fees and it is against ebay rules to do so.

I have offered e-cheque or personal cheque so they can take it or leave it!

+1

Or just build it into your minimum selling price.  Nobody likes suffering PayPal fees or selling fees, but we all know what they're going to be - before we start selling.

Yeah they are YOUR fees, I'd be a bit annoyed if I was expected to pay for them if i was buying. If someone also asked for an extra £3 to cover listing fees you would be peeved, never mind Paypal stuff. I personally like using Gumtree to sell stuff, free and I've shifted a bass, amp and guitar pretty easily.

I think I`ll look at gumtree. Is it easy to do?

Doddle, make your listing and leave a contact number or email addy and people get in touch. It's just online small ads basically.

Is it quite a big audience?
