Hey all. I ve been wanting to buy a BK pickup (humbucker) for my Dean V mahogany-maple-rosewood guitar. I play an extremely heavy gauge, which is tuned to drop B, and I am a rather hard picking player. As my stuff tends to be based more on single notes, and single note palm mute riffs, I m looking for definition with plenty of bite. At the moment this guitar has a DiMarzio Evolution1 pickup, but i dont really enjoy the very high output of the pickup on stage, as it tends to be hard to control (I like to play with a very defined, precise sound). I want tight lows with defined highs, but i hate EMG's, I havent played one that actually has plenty of body, and they do sound plastic to my ears.
Anyone offering some advice on possibly narrowing down my options, would really help me!
Thanx!

The BKPs I own are the VHII, Mule, and Rebel Yell. I've used a War Pig, but not for long enough to know a lot about it.
Of the three I know well, I think the Rebel Yell would be good for this. I've used mine in Drop C# and it sounded great. The output isn't as high as your Evolution, but it is definitely a rock pickup. I'd say it's got loads of definition and bite.
There are probably Bare Knuckles which are tighter and more defined, but you'd have to ask other people about them. They're probably the ceramic ones, though, and they'll have a higher output too. I'm guessing the Holy Diver or Cold Sweat might be recommended.

Miracle Man sprang to mind for me here....
Welcome by the way :)

Pickups I think would be suitable for you, due principally to their tightness and clarity, in ascending output
Cold Sweat
Miracle Man
Painkiller.
They are very different tonally, though.

I use a miracle man for similar sort of stuff (I use a 3mm stubby triangle pick, 13Gauge strings and drop A tuning (that's drop B with the bottom string down an extra tone). Totally articulate, full-bodied and tight as you can play. If I were you I'd ask Tim his opinion. I agree with MDV's assessment, any of those pickups should be ideal for what you want!

Thanx so much for the help! Greatly appreciated. I m leaning towards the Painkiller right now, but will definately ask Tim for some more advice. I did try a BK pickup and i know for sure i ll be coming back for more.
Thanx again everyone!

I like my Miracle Man a lot. I dig the full-bodied sound.
