Need some advice. The old lady passed 100 bucks my way to do as I please. I need something to do some recording. I was thinking either the Pocket Pod or Toneport UX1. Any opinions on which is the better bang for the buck? I will be using it mostly into my computer. I only have a Cube 20X at the moment, which doesn't take external effects anyway. Of course, other suggestions are also welcome. Thanks!

Apparently the UX1 is much better for recording. Can be hooked up using USB for fast, low latency recording. I'm very tempted by either one myself, let us know what you decide on and record clips!

I've been a Line 6 man (until I got a VOX Tonelab LE) but I haven't used either the pocket POD or the Toneport. However...
I understand the pocket POD is based on the older POD 2.0 modelling and as well as that has very little in the way of programmability - if you like the tones you're away, if not, not much tweaking available. Not sure what its outputs are. But as far as I'm aware, it is designed as a "cut down pod for travelling with".
The Toneports are actually designed for PC recording. I believe they use the (better, in my opinion) POD XT modelling. I think they work as a one-stop modeller and sound card - I think they even have mic inputs. I did consider going the Toneport route when I bought a POD XTLive, but I already had the soundcard capability, my PC isn't really up to supporting the modelling as well as my DAW, and I didn't want to switch on the PC everytime I wanted to play... so I plumped for the standalone unit.
Of the two, I'd go for Toneport. But if you like the pocket POD sounds, consider a POD 2.0 - I used one for recording for some time a few years back. There still seems to be lots about, and they seem to be going new for quite cheap. It's robust, very versatile, and if you have a midi interface to your PC you can download a free patch editor/library program that makes setting up tones a breeze... (it has line outs, but no sound card built in though, )
But do consider this: "The old lady passed 100 bucks my way to do as I please" - are you sure that doesn't mean take her out for a nice meal?!!

 Actually, she just got back from two weeks of vacation in Croatia, so she is in a good mood!
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to go for the Toneport UX1. I have the Cube for jamming out, and just need something for recording. As soon as I get it up and running I will make some clips!

I seem to remember that the Toneports are also meant to make "reamping" a breeze - recording the "dry" guitar signal (while listening to a modelled tone) and then feeding that back into a different model.
Check out the manuals, you can download them:http://line6.com/support/manuals/ (http://line6.com/support/manuals/) :D

This is very true.
A friend got the pocket pod a while back and hated it, he said the tones had no definition or bite and were just a fuzzy mess no matter what you did.
I have had both the ux1 and now have the gx
the only differences are the gx doesnt have mic in (you have to buy a xlr adaptor) and doesnt have as many outputs for things such as monitors but you can hook it straight to your line in for monitoring anyway.
so if you dont need the extra outputs or the mic input i say get the gx seen as though its about half the price.

Are the mic inputs on the UX2 any good? I was looking into getting one as I need an audio interface anyway and thought I might as well get the toneport so I could use the modelling as well.. but I doubt itd be as good quality as the EMU 0404usb I was going to get instead? I want to use the interface as an external soundcard for everything, basically because I just have onboard sound now which cant be amazing.

Well, I bought the Toneport UX-1 and it seems great, except for the fact that every few seconds the audio glitches/breaks up. It's not a clipping sort of breakup, more of a technical problem it seems. Anyone have experience with it? I unistalled and reinstalled and it is still there. I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. :(

I found disconnecting the internet to your computer works to solve that problem.
-
I will try that out. Thanks!

Didn't work. The audio still stutters every few seconds. I am getting aggravated. :x
-
take it back, ask them to replace it

First of all increase your driver latency.
But it may be more terminal, there is a Chipset issue which effects ALL usb audio interfaces.

(Less techy with some useful help)

Best work around is to buy a usb riser card whcih bypasses the problem chipset.

Thanks so much Philip. I am going to try this out and hopefully it will help. Very helpful info!

I would also say try all your usb ports as dependant on your machine they may not all the same spec
specced port right next to a full USB 2 port

Finally got it up and running! :D
My initial impression is that this thing is very impressive, the possibilities are endless. I will try to get some clips up soon. Thanks for all the help!
