There really aren't many better players out there, alive or deceased. Shawn Lane has him beat, but I'm struggling to think of any others.

I've had a copy of Erotic Cakes for near on a year, it is still great listening.  Govan is a Master.

I find the most amazing thing about Guthrie is he seems to be a master of so many different styles. Over the years he has done some amazing transcriptions/recordings in Guitar Techniques etc of a whole variety of different material.

When asked to name who they thought were the best guitarists in the world many of the GT tutors (including Dave Killminster, the other guitarist in the video) included Guthrie. Look at some of the comments by Joe Satriani, Dweezil Zappa, Richie Kotzen etc. on his Myspace site: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=102145560 (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=102145560).

("Rhode Island Shred" gives some idea of his versatility)

I've got the opening riff to Sevens on the brain now!  Really like that - might put Erotic Cakes on my "to buy" list...
