I've just seen this over on the PRS forum.
The new PRS Starla to be formally announced next month at the PRS Experience.
Singlecut 22 fret Mira with TV Jones Filter'trons and a Bigsby. Arrrgggghhhh!! I want!!!! :o

-
For once, Dave, I have to disagree - methinks that's fairly hideous. :P
(Although I did glimpse the words "22 fret Mira" and get a bit excited  )
I'm a little surprised to see PRS venturing into the realms of Bigsbys and Filter'trons (and tune-o-matics!), it's moving away from their "keep everything in house" principles. What next, a PRS Tele?
-
Any other new stuff to be announced at the PRS Experience, BTW?
-
KInda has a look of a gretsch....but then I like gretsch and tv jones pickups
-
What next, a PRS Tele?
Nope, but there's a PRS Strat :o
(http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r305/jazzandmetal/jeremy001.jpg)
4 amp models:
Dallas "Texas w/verb"
Jenna "added harmonics"
Blue Sierra "Plexi & BF Fender"
Original Sewell
Chesapeake Electric: Sort of a more-stratt-ish PRS
Chesapeake Acoustic: Cutaway and Non (total of 4 models to be intro'd later)
Modern Eagle II
Plus there are possiblities of 22 fret/P90/satin finish Miras...
-
There's something about the look of a Bigsby on a guitar that leaves me cold, for some reason. Dunno why; I've never owned or even played one. It's just that when ever I see one I kinda tense up...
Why is that?
-
The single cut reminds me of one of the 70s Ovation solid bodies.
Looks wise I prefer the Mira double cut (hmmm that with Filtrons would be nice)
-
FFS Dave! :x
Mind you, I can see why you like it, it is kinda cool in a way that PRS haven't done before. I think it might well suit you! :D Great rhythym sounds.
Not sure what's with PRS at the moment...they seem determined to saturate the market and make one of everything.
Me, I wouldn't have one as a competition prize!
-
Ha ha! I know you're not a fan mate! I'd take my Mira over an SG any day of the week. That's why I sold my '61 reissue.
I just think that Starla is way cool. I'm going to have one :)
-
Are they the same price as the mira's
-
Hmm, funny you mention SG's.
-
No idea on pricing yet Marc, but I believe it'll be around the Mira level. It's got everything electric on the scratchplate to cut costs, like the Mira. All front routed, drop-in electrics, no fancy stuff means low cost.
I hope they're TV Jones pickups.....
-
Got to say will eventually own a set of tv jones again unique sound but one I like a lot
-

thats what i thought as well... bit of a niche market
-
Same here. I love the tone of the TV Classic in my SG Junior. I'm using it in Doppelganger for my Eb stuff. Awesome ryhthm tone, very Malcolm Young.
-
:lol::lol::lol:
I can't see the picks at work, so no comments to make...
...apart from
... I've been waiting for a thread like this to appear, sir
I must admit, I did think September would have started before it appeared :D
-
Well I haven't got the cash, I've got two Ibanez reissues on order that I haven't worked out how to pay for yet, I've got no more guitars to sell, so there's no way I can get a new PRS.
I'm just going to have to want and not buy.
It'll kill me.
-
I've got two Ibanez reissues on order....
What!!!? :o
-
;)
-
*L* so how many you got at mo before these two
-
I think I had around 25 at my peak, but I've cut down a little bit and I've now got 20.
12 'player' electrics
6 'collection' Ibanez's
2 acoustics
2 'collection' Ibanez's are on order if they come to the UK. I should find out soon if they'll definitely be coming here.

I like it. I like it a lot. I hope there's a hardtail version.
-
I have a feeling there will be several Mira/Starla versions announced....
-
I think you're probably right. A hardtail Starla with standard Hums (for replacement with Mules) might just be the Josh Homme-ness I have been looking for.
-
At the risk of offending Tim () You won't need Mules. The stock pups are very, very good.
-
I don't doubt they are, I just have a fairly strong preference for the ould Mules for that kind of sound. As ever, itd depend how the stock ones sounded.
-
Fair enough! The stock ones are like a cross between a Riff Raff and a Mule :)
-
Theoretically speaking, I might even go lower output, AII Stormies or such.
-
As they're very SG-like, I think they'd work well too....
-

+1
I hate the way bigsby's look. They look like an unsightly dental contraption to me, something that might need to be there, but by god you look forward to the day that it comes off...
And that scratchplate is a bit meh. I'm never a fan of scratchplates, though, so my reaction to this one is not a surprise!

My wallet is safe, that thing is seriously fugly (JMHO of course, YMMV etc, etc... :))
-
That's uglier than AC/DC.
-
The single cut reminds me of one of the 70s Ovation solid bodies.
Ovation was my first thought when I saw it too.
-
I kinda like it. But then again, I want a bigsby, but I don't like the look of them exactly. Scratchplate is fugly, but I like the idea of it. My money is safe. Until i finally settle the sg vs 335 debate in my mind.
-
If they do one with P90s it would be cool.
-
It would be, indeed. A pelham blue wan with a cream 'guard and soapbars would look awesome.
-
OK, seen the pics now...
The singlecut mira thing, (Starla?) not bad. But then again, I have been pondering a Grestch Corvette on and off, so that makes some sense... think I'd rather go for a Corvette on looks though (and I suspect price as well...) And I see exactly what people mean about "Ovation" as well...
But I'm sorry, that other thing... (Chesapeake) AGGHH! PDT_039
ugly, ugly, UGLY!!! :orcass:
Please tell me you're only gassing about the first one, and the other post was just sharing information!!
-
Yep, it's only the Starla I like!
-
that's pretty cool apart from the scratchplate. terrible name, though. o_O
-
Strange... beautifull... :? :D
-
What next, a PRS Tele?
Nope, but there's a PRS Strat :o

Pardon my language, but that is a f@cking atrocity!
Honestly, who in their right mind designed that... thing?
- Nickel, gold and black hardware all on the same guitar. :x
- Early '80s "furniture style" multiple-timber construction. :x
- Pukey, tacky sub-Richie Sambora inlays. :x
- A ludicrously elaborate logo. :x
- The worst six-in-line headstock shape of all time - eclipsing even Danny Spitz's super-fugly custom camo PRS. :x
- And a truly nasty Ibanez-Blazer-meets-early-Peavey scratchplate with about 17,000 screws. WTF?!!! :x :x :x
Honestly, it must be some kind of practical joke. Isn't it???? :?
-
Nope. And it's going to be expensive as it's a Private Stock guitar.
It's SHOCKINGLY awful isn't it?
-
I'm not a fan of the Mira myself, and both of those other PRS' are even worse! Looks like my moneys safe until I can find a Custom 22 that I can afford :)
-
Never sure about mira..on here looked nice wasn't so taken in the flesh
-
I'm coming round to the look of the mira - I thought it was horrible at first, but when I saw one in the flesh I decided it was best not to try in case I liked the feel of it!
I think it's very interesting how several of us seem to actually find this chesapeake thing offensive to look at! Usually I keep quiet (beauty in the eye of the beholder, and all that), but I felt sufficiently offended to post my little outburst last night, and now I see Philly's - love that "a truly nasty ... scratchplate with about 17,000 screws"!!
I think it's the two-wood body that gets me most - hides a body shape that isn't that bad...
-
i must be ill, i quite like the Chesapeake! :)
-
Ah - the GAS has subsided somewhat. The Starla has a 24.5" scale length. That *might* be a deal breaker for me.

-
^ That's the very beast I'm thinking about Mr Hunter! :D
-
I have an original Batwing Corvette (2 PU), they are great sounding guitars.
-
But ugly as hell :(
-
The more I think about it, the truer it seems. PRS are seriously pulling your chain here. They packed everything that can suck about a guitar into one.

I dunno what it is about those guitars, i just love em!

I prefer this one:

I have to say, I am totally immune to Gretsch GAS. :?
-
I wouldn't say mine was "GAS" at the moment - I don't have the money for it, but will have in a few months or so, so I can be relaxed about it (!)
I've just realised something quite interesting about my "GAS motivation" though, I think I might even start another thread, because it would be somewhat philosophical and generic for this thread. And I think it's a Time Out jobbie as well... Let me have a coffee and see if I can get my thoughts in order... (I'm meant to be restringing two guitars as well )
-
I have to say, I am totally immune to Gretsch GAS. :?
YAY!
Philly and I agree (at least partially) on something!
:)

-
i love the look of gretsch's.
-
i refuse to try gretsches just in case I get GAS...
it's got to that point, to be honest. :(
-
I'd take both gretsch's
-

I'm not going to say I hate them, or question the sexuality of people who play them, or describe any Gretsch features I particularly dislike, or anything....
...but yeah.
-
It's funny, I normally like PRS guitars - I like the look of the standard Mira, even though it isn't my kind of guitar, but the Starla leaves me cold. As for that Chesapeake thing, like someone said earlier, I hope to god that's some sort of pratical joke they knocked up in Photoshop - it's frickin hideous! It looks like a PRS EG model that someone's done a half-arsed home modification job on:

horrid looking guitar that mate, absolutely horrid.
-
I really like the chesapeake, its quirky and i bet it looks alot nicer in real life that in the photo.
