Title: Mark tremonti / Alterbridge Neck Tone.
Post by: BigK on August 22, 2008, 11:18:01 AM
Basically Im going to be changing the pickups in my USA Prs tremonti to BKP's not because the pickups dont suit my engl powerball as well as BKP's do. The bridge its a little bright and its resonant frequencies seem to clash with the powerball making the highs quite harsh and spiky. They also seem to mud up and lose definition as you turn the volume down. Also I cant split the neck Pickup as it's only two conductor.

Therefore, Im going to for for a ceramic Warpig in the bridge but I dont know much about the neck pickups, The only BKP Neck pickup I've used is a miracle man neck.

I mainly use my neck pickup for cleans especially stuff like the intro to the song broken wings by alterbridge so I really want to be able nail that tone. but also be versatile and coil split well.

Let me know your thoughts!

I'd try a miracle man bridge / cold sweat or nailbomb neck

the miracle man has definitely more punch and clarity than the tremonti treble
I think the warpig will be too much

my bandmate uses a miracle man set in mahogany thru a 100w amp that he built himself based on the fire/powerball preamp and the soldano slo100 power amp
works great
I used the miracle man for a while in 2 les pauls thru my framus cobra and I'm surely could get that tone
now I'm using the cold sweat, that is less punchy/more balanced and I still can get HEAVY AS HELL
the powerball has a huge amount of gain (a lot more than a mesa or framus) and tightness, so you don't need to go extreme on the pickups

don't you already have a miracle man in another guitar?
maybe you could try it on this one and buy another model for the "non-tremonted" guitar

Ditto on the Warpig being a bit too much in that guitar, for what you want from it. Neck pickup-wise, the Nailbomb neck might be a good bet. It might even be worth considering a Nailbomb set - the bridge pickup gets quite close to Tremonti's sound. I had one in a Les Paul a few years ago, and the sound was quite close. The Holydiver neck is also worth considering - it has a very clear, rounded tone and sounds great for clean passages.

dont use the warpig in that guitar it will be overpowering with the bass and get flabby, use a miracle man.
