Title: Nail Bomb

I've just fitted a nail bomb in one of my guitars for the first time. The guitar has a swamp ash body and a maple neck with a FR bridge. I've been testing it through a 1974 Traynor YGL3 head with a 2x12 cab containing a Celestion Vintage 30 and a G12 without any effects. Until now the amp/cab has always sounded very clean, even flat out, but with the nail bomb I'm getting a really smooth, very pleasant crunch, almost overdriven, sound even at low volumes. Can anyone (Tim?) explain the technicalities to me for future ref?

Could be the extra drive from the Nailbombs - they're pretty hot - overdriving the first stage of gain in the Traynor - that's all I can think it could be! 8)

I think HJM is right, the NB is a very hot pickup.Try backing it away from the strings and the tone will clean up.

Hey, I'm not complaining. Other "hot" pickups I've used have tended to sound muddy and (badly) distorted and I've not yet been impressed by many high output pickups. This Nail bomb, as I said, gives a really nice crunch without smothering the string definition and sounds really HUGE without any help in the effects department. I'll try dropping the pickup a little just out of curiosity but the poles are already about 8mm away from the strings.

Get it nice and close and you'll scare Johnny Mac's neighbours- if/when they move in that is.

heh my neighbour on one side is an old lady whos going deaf... i could speed up the process by the sounds of things :lol:

 :lol: Still no neighbours :D  I've still got the freedom to blast at around 60w upwards. Good eh! Best pressie for years!
