Title: Amp Stolen While Rehearsing.
Post by: martinw on August 27, 2008, 09:57:11 AM
Whilst rehearsing last night with TF and the mighty Doppelganger, I had my car broken into outside The Greenhouse rehearsal rooms in Ancoats.
I'd put my spare amp in the rear footwell, foolishly believing it would be out of sight and safe. They broke my rear passenger window and quarterlight and took the amp.  :(  Left the cover though  :?
The amp was a Martamp Roadstar 36 head, and was my development mule, so it lived in a modded JTM600 cabinet. It has done about 40-50 gigs and countless rehearsals, sounded superb and I'm quite attached to it.
It's unique, so I'm hoping one day it will pop up somewhere, and it's marked internally with my post code. So if anyone offers you a suspiciously cheap amp, or you hear of one in the Manchester area, I'd be obliged if you could contact GMP or me.
The only pics I've got are early ones before I fitted the front control plate, but it'll be enough for an ID.
Thanks.

That's cr@p.  Should be pretty easy to identify though?  Stuff like that is BOUND to find its way into a secondhand music shop, I'd have thought.  They couldn't risk it on Ebay...

Mark.

Keep an eye to your local Crack Converters etc. You'd be stunned at the relative density of some crims. Hopefully it'll show, and then it's only a call to the fuzz from being yours.

(Side note to Belfast/NI posters...Everything you've ever owned that was nicked is in Smithfield Market, somewhere!)

I'm working at Riffs Music Academy at the moment so I'll keep an eye out and see if I can put a sign up if it helps.
As per the other posts, your amps are distinctive and should be difficult to shift unless they keep it for themselves.
Bet you it turns up in a shop in Oxford Road, Manchester.

You should consider trying to rehearse at Riffs in Romiley. It's safer and the studios, are newly refurbished and have a free pool table. (shameless but very symapthetic plug) :(
It's a lot closer for you and about as close for Twinfan

That's exactly what I typed in and then re-phrased just in case I offended anyone.
They bought my old Marshall a few years ago. I can't believe the transformer lasted the 30 seconds they spent testing it as there was something seriously wrong with it. I think I had to show a gas bill to prove my address when selling it. Hardly a fool proof way of avoiding picking up stolen gear

That is a total pisser, but as it's unique that should go a long way to getting it back.

Thanks for the sympathy, and tips.  :) I'll definitely pop in to the aforementioned shop with a flyer or summat.

My home insurance doesn't cover stuff away from the home, and although I can claim on my car insurance, the high theft excess and loss of no-claims means it's not worth it, so that's that.
At least I'm not short of amps. <wry grin>

Strange as it may seem, Martin doesn't actually own that many amps so it's a big loss to lose his 36watter.

Damn thieving crack heads.....

This wee site (http://www.stringsreunited.com/portal/add-stolen.php) can prove rather handy, too.

I hate thieves.

Thats a bummer but as it's so unique it can't be long till it pops up. It's the pits when things like this happen, thieves like this are ####!!s.

Sorry to hear that Martin-I hope the scrotes got a hernia carrying it away. You mentioned claiming on your motor policy-I may be wrong but I doubt whether you would be able to(even though you said you wont anyway) because the cover is for personal effects and they probably wouldn't class an amp as a personal effect ( Insurers normally define such things). AS others have said, hopefully it will be recovered.

I had my car broken in outside the same place about 5 years ago, when it used to be Sankey Soap downstairs.
There was a sleeping bag in my boot and they used it to carry everything in the whole car away, luckily my guitar and amp were inside with me but a few pedals, CD's shoes, leads etc were taken.

The must not have liked my shades as they smashed them up and left them by the car.  Fortunately I had a spare set at home 8)

Go pre-emptive. Go to all the local places that sell/buy second hand gear and make some kind of arrangement with them, that if it's offered, make an excuse, ask the seller to "come back in an hour when the fella that deals with that is here", then they give you a buzz,  you're waiting as they return, with a nice, friendly officer of the law. Or a hurley bat. Whichever works for you.

..... as it's so unique it can't be long till it pops up.

That's what I'm hoping too. Fingers crossed.

Cheers.

Ahh man, I'm genuinely gutted to hear that, Martin. It's such a nasty, nasty feeling to come across the ransacked remains where thieves have left. I really hope you get the amp back soon, and those thieving ****s get precisely what they deserve...

Damn, makes me sick to hear this. I'll keep my eyes open in case it turns up over the pennines in Yorkshire.
Really hope you get it back Martin.

I've put these photographs on my phone and I'll keep a keep a close eye out for it when doing my rounds in Leeds.

Stuff that gets knicked here seems to show up in Manchester... maybe it'll go the other way around...

I've no doubt you'll get it back though, there's no argument as to who owns it really!

the latter is just delightful, and a good idea :D
