I'm looking to order a BKP for the bridge position of my Ibanez S7420 7-string. It is a mahogany body with a maple neck, and i'll be playing it through an Engl Powerball.
I'm into all sorts of metal/death metal like Nevermore, Unearth, Morbid Angel, Meshuggah so I was thinking of either a Nailbomb or Warpig. Basically what I'm after is a nice tight bottom end for the chug chug fast riffing haha. Any suggestions? Also I'm going to be wiring it upto a Vol/Tone/5-way switch configuration so would I need 4-conductor or a braided 2?
Thanks for the help

The best fast riffing BK, hands down, is the Painkiller.
Not to say there arent others that are great for it, but the PK is the king.
For those specific bands I'd go:
Nevermore: holy diver
Unearth: PK
MA: WP
Meshuggah: PK.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Unearth and Meshuggah are probably the favourite of those bands I listed so I'll definately look into the Painkiller. Any help on whether I would need a 4-conductor wiring or braided 2? I'm fairly certain its 4-conductor just want to be sure before I place an order

4 conductor is no extra and PKs split and parralel very well. Get it just in case.
-
Great thanks for the advice, i'll place my order for a painkiller 7 now!
-
Sorry for the double post, but approx how long is delivery on BKPs as I'm going to be leaving the country on Monday for 3weeks.
-
Well, I cant speak for Tim on this, but....next day is possible, A little tiny bit of the time, They're busy, busy folk but work horrifically hard. Call him tomorrow morning, you MIGHT have them by friday or saturday, if you tell him youre going away. You never know.
More likely they'll be waiting when you get back, having arrived on the monday or tuesday.
-
Alright I'll order them now, I was just worried incase I had to sign on delivery and was overseas so they got returned. But upon my return i'll be installing a new Painkiller 7, thanks for the help.
-
No! Not now.
Tim checks his (absurd number of) emails very regularly, but calling, WITH A PHONE is better. For a start you can have a conversation (like where two people are talking in turn) about the pickups, and you know that he got the order, and you can ask him when you can get the pickups.
-
Oh, and youre most welcome :D

And double posts aint nothing to apologise for!
Or even tripple!
I think my records 6 on here. Dont tell TO!
-
Bit late, got caught up in the excitement and ordered them online now. I mentioned in the comments that I am leaving the country on Monday, but just to make sure I'll give him a call tomorrow morning as well and see if it'll be possible to fast-track the order. If not then I don't mind waiting until I get back before he posts them. I'm looking forward to them already
-
Okey dokey.
Report back here when you've played them a bit. If you can stop playing them.
-
I won't be able to install them until I get back but once they are in and i've given them a thorough test I'll be back with a review.
-
Good good.
Have a good holiday!
-
Personally, I didn't like the Painkiller 7 much. I'm not saying you won't like it, but it would definitely have been worth spending a bit of time thinking about it.
I exchanged mine for a Cold Sweat, which in my opinion is a better choice for tight 7 string riffage.

I just spoke to Tim on the phone, and he explained the differences between the Nailbomb 7 and Painkiller 7 which was a great help. The Painkiller sounds like what I'm after. He also said he's going to be able to build mine today and post it off tomorrow so I should get it before I go on holiday.
-
Good stuff. Let us know how you get on with it.
Just to clarify, the PK7 had a good sound, but I found it to be a little too "clean" for my liking. Which I though was odd as it's one of the hotter BKPs.

Painkiller 7 ordered Weds night, arrived Saturday morning, going to get them installed asap. Thanks to Tim for getting them to me so fast! Review to follow in a few weeks time, i'm off on holiday!
