(excuse my Sir Mixalot impression)
This is my current toybox - will have to make room for the Egnater
To be fair the Egnater will live in the workshop rack and this will remain predominantly my ADA rack
It's a bit obscene really!

That's just ridiculous. You should be ashamed of yourself!
-
erm what do they all do?
I see a BBE maximizer, some kind of TC electronics unit, the marshall power amp and a power cleaning unit thingy at the top, no idea what the rest are but I'm guessing at least one of them is a preamp
-
I love rack gear...
I see an ada mp-1 preamp.. are the others ada eqs? and a pretty sweet rocktron piranha
I have a rack head, and a pre/power rig... but currently no effects racks....
i have had a korg A3 in the past, a behringer rack dsp2424 i think (pretty much a waste of time), a lexicon something, a roland dep-3 which was awsome till it broke.
but now... the boss ce-2 in the clean fx loop on all the time, just to add a slight touch of chorus is all i really want.

They're ALL MP-1s :|
Samson PB10
5x ADA MP-1
Rocktron Piranha
TC Electronics G-Force
BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer
Kawai MX-8SR Mixer
Marshall 9100 Power Amp - 50/50 I think?
I assume the reason you have 5 MP-1s is so you can have 5 guitars plugged in at once when you're doing guitar shows etc?
Otherwise I see no reason for it...
I assume, the 5 MP1s go into the mixer, and then out through the Piranha/G-Force and the Maximiser, into the power amp?
What you using as cabs?
-
Sorry, but I look at all those buttons and switches and my head starts hurting. :(
-
I really don't get racks at all apart from simple ones that are a power amp, a pre-amp and a tuner. Looks damn cool though!
-

Same here. I'm a major simpleton when it comes to guitar-related technology. I'm not a technophobe in other areas of my life, but I can't be arsed with rack/floorboard guitar gear. How thick is the manual for that lot Feline?
-
Jonathan, you're officially sick

Samson PB10

Samson PB11
4xADA MP-1 + 1xADA MP-1 Classic ?
-
Yes 5 MP1s but they are all different
Two are stock , but not for long as there is a replacement board that greatly improves the sound
Here is a list of the mods that are available for ADA MP1s
http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/detailled/ADA-MP-1/mods.htm (http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/detailled/ADA-MP-1/mods.htm)
One is the 3TM version (extra preamp tube = monster gain)
One is the Mod4 mk 2 - tweaked for 1980s hair metal - sounds more like hotrodded Marshall
The MP1 classic is another variant they brought out but sounds very different , but has killer clean tones, although i may lose that
The red Pirhana is fab, - have another for sale in seconds out
Intend to link them all with a Rocktron Patchmate which will allow me to footswitch between them , and route my signal via whichever I programme it to do
The TC G Force is the FX and the BBE is the sonic maximiser - gives it all some extra sizzle
Marshall is 50w per side tube power amp
It's pretty sick
-
Jonathan, you're officially sick
Yes - this is most of what is left after I sell all that I have left in Seconds Out!
There is a smaller rack waiting for my Egnater that has another Samson PS10 and a BBE
that is the one that Martamp are making the 10w power amp for
-
I like then big too, but not quite these
I've the same problem as Philly Q and Simon D... And I believe I could never get a decent tone with that many options... would get lost, change everything and find nothing (http://216.211.140.132/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/doh3.gif)
-
Outrageous.
-
I understand the idea, but my life is complicated enough (and generally leaves me baffled most of the time). I'd love play with some of it, but I'm at a point in my life where every second is precious... If I'm not working I need to spend time with the wife and kids. If I get time off for good behaviour, I go play. Add too many buttons into that mix and I'll go nowhere very fast, I suspect.
I'll bet it sounds damn cool though!
-

And you say you have trouble with English, Fernando... I couldn't have put that better! :D 8)
-
You've gotta wonder how ADA managed to go bust given how popular their stuff was (& how hard to find it has become since).
You've just made me kick myself (again) for the ADA MP-2 I dithered over. Damn, that thing was good...
-
And you say you have trouble with English, Fernando... I couldn't have put that better! :D 8)
Thank you, sir! :D
-
I see the appeal of racks but they get outdated too fast and cost alot!
-
4 MP-1 Preamps and 1 MP-1 Classic!! Couldn't you program the sounds in one of them?
-
I also like big racks, guitar racks specifically are always something I want to try out more, but think "hell, why not just put that lead into my guitar, and the other end into my amp"
-
Outrageous.
+1 :)
your engl rack in seconds out looks pretty cool too... why are you selling that, out of interest?

That is not the big rack I want to see.

This thread just sparked my interest, for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on...
-
I always liked the ADA MP-1 and would jump at the chance of owning one if the price was right. Would be great for all that 80s metal stuff. I'd just get a SS power amp for home use.
-
That is a big rack 'o 80s. PDT_008

Yes - i agree - especially as I prefer my women busty - hence the twist on the "I like big butts " song title
Putting big racks into google doesn't bring up much guitar stuff I confess :o
Sorry not to reply sooner - been away helping my girlfriend move house
-
Ok - will try to answer questions and clear up any a few points
I first got an ADA MP1 in 1988 and it turned my world upside down and have never been without one since.
They are not hard to program at all, as they dont give you a lot of options
I actually don't like preamps/processors where you start having to chose algorithms and scroll through settings.
It is the reason that when I did have the successor to the MP1 ----- the MP2, although the sounds were killer, I didn't like using it.
The controls on the MP1 could only be easier if they were controlled by knobs like on the Rocktron Pirhana (which is brilliant as you just dial in a tone like you would on an amp head and hit store when you like what you hear)
The MP1 has only the following controls to set up a patch
Voicing: Choose clean tube, distorted tube or solid state clean
OD1: sets gain for first tube (high gain on 1st tube = crunchy, high gain on 2nd =fatter tone)
OD2: sets gain for second tube
Master gain - sets output level for patch
bass +/- 16db
mid +/- 12db
treble +/- 16db
presence +/- 12db
fx loop in/out
chorus depth (0= chorus off)
chorus speed
Easy really.
I would use just one but for the fact that some of the mods offer really different tones
I love the stock unit, but intend to add a bass tweak control to allow me to shift the centre frequency of the bass control from 160hz to whatever sounds best for my system - just swapping out a resistor for a variable resistor
There is a superstock mod which I am keen to try that just gives you better clarity and tone so I may do that.
one of my two stock units I run on 5750 valves rather than the stock 12ax7a/Ecc83/7025 as it sounds cleaner for really clean stuff.
I have the 3TM modified version - kick ass sound and the Mod4 has that 80s modded Marshall tone
they do a mod3.666 which is supposed to top even a dual rectifier for THAT tone, but that hasn't gotten me yet , although I may have one of my stock units modified to that in time
I always liked the ADA MP-1 and would jump at the chance of owning one if the price was right. Would be great for all that 80s metal stuff. I'd just get a SS power amp for home use.
Still think it sounds way better with a valve power amp (and maybe with a BBE at times) - run it into a 10w tube power section - great for home.
your engl rack in seconds out looks pretty cool too... why are you selling that, out of interest?
I really like the sound of the ENGL and ENGLs do have that sound that almost nobody else can get, but I have just gotten back into the ADAs and am treating myself to the Egnater stuff and i need some space (& money).
Same is true of the Soldano - great unit, and would keep it if space and money were not an issue
My girlfriend now counts my amps when she calls round to see if they have "multiplied" while she was away.
I see the appeal of racks but they get outdated too fast and cost alot!
Dont agree
My ADA has been with me since 1988 - pretty good value for money considering how long I've had it - even though it cost nearly £800 back then. Price wise I have chosen my moments to get more ADAs carefully and always paid about
£200 or less (often done trades with friends)
Tonally it is still what I love, so it is about as out of date as a Marshall head - timeless if that is what you like
And I believe I could never get a decent tone with that many options... would get lost, change everything and find nothing
No - easy to do really - would only be easier if it had knobs on as i said before
And the reason I am happy to have 4 or so units is that they all program in the same way no matter which mods you have on them, only the sounds an settings differ
I also like big racks, guitar racks specifically are always something I want to try out more, but think "hell, why not just put that lead into my guitar, and the other end into my amp"
I guess that is why I have my second rack that wil just be like a 4 channel amp head
Egnater M4 with 4 preamp modules which are just like the controls on an amp, TC Electronics reverb/delay, Martamp 10w poweramp.

Might give my MP1 a try again, but I never got the sound I was looking for with that thing before.
Maybe the BKPs will bring the best out of it
-
Uhhhh Good to know, someday I'll give it a try, when find someone who owns it

That's interesting, sounds like it's worth a try.
I found the stock MP1 quite fizzy for the higher gain sounds.
-

out dated??
amps are never the most up to date things, thats not the general idea of them.
