Post by: Catalyst77 on August 30, 2008, 08:52:27 PM
Am in the process of building a 2x12 cab and wondered what affect adding the eggbox foam would have??

Cheers

It will "deaden" the cab.

So, if the cab is rather too resonant for you, a bit of foam could help, to tighten it up just a bit.  But otherwise, or if too much is used, it will probably just make the cab sound rather dead and lifeless.

With or without the eggs?

Come on - it was a serious question - no cracking yolks please.

I agree, he doesn't wanna shell out any extra cash where it's not needed

They were eggscruciatingly painful, although I must admit, some cracked me up. Still, on a forum like this it's to be eggspected.

I'm way down in the pecking order on this stuff and have eggactly nothing useful to bring to this discussion.

Getting a sensible answer now will be like trying to find hens teeth.

You should try adding a henweigh.

Back on topic...

If you're worried about noise and you neighbours, don't be; they can "coup" with it...

yeah, don't chicken out on cranking the thing.

you could mess with acoustic foam on one of the sides or the back - since this breaks up the reflected sound, it gives the impression of a 'bigger' cab.  Try it, got nothing to loose.  Just don't put foam on all sides or it will sound shitee, you need some reflective surfaces in there.

Keep your beak out of it!

These puns are bloody awful

I might actually try putting a bit of this acoustic foam stuff on the detatchable back panel in my 2x12. Will be quite easy to put on/take off and if it makes the sound bigger it'll be worth a go :)
