Here's a shot Steve has sent in to show he's hard at work finalising spec on the 'Rebel Yell' Steve Stevens signature humbucker set. Like all BKP's nothing is set in stone until they've gone through rigorous field testing and where better than the Billy Idol 2005 world tour.
The pickup set in Steve's gold sparkleburst LP Standard feature gold etched covers and in his own words, '....your pickups are the only ones that you can actually "play" the pickup. Dig in, it grinds, back off and it articulates.'
Awesome stuff 8)
-
Insane. Any closeup of the pups, Tim?
I wonder if Steve can provide us with some clips.
-
If you look closely you can see the BKP logo etched on the covers.
I'm hoping that, when he's got a break from his heavy touring schedule, Steve will do us a clip...........we'll definately do one for the Rebel Yell humbucker :D
-
Great news Tim & Steve!
I think the quality of player eloquently suggests the potential of these pickups.
(I feel a case of GAS coming on in preparation for their final release. I'm gonna be a very poor boy)
-
Coooooooooool! \m/
-
That's awesome man! 8)
-
Tim, any idea when the pup will be available? I'm guessing 1st Q of 2006?
-
any vague spec at this point?
-
I can't publish anymore spec other than to say it's Alnico V based and the fact that it's quite different from anything I've done thus far.............Steve's got one more tweak he's requested before it's all set in stone.
We're hoping for release this year if poss but it may well go into the first Q of 06 like you rightly said Ben.................Steve's offered to do an in-store too!
Whatever happens, you guys will hear about it first!
-
Nice one Tim!
-
Great stuff Tim. I hope the in store is near me!
-
Cool stuff. Remembering the song Rebell Yell, I bet it'll be one energetic rock pickup.

Yeah...that looks like really hard work.....
To quote Jack Black, "I service society by rocking! Rocking ain't no walk in the park, lady!!' :)
-
Ok ok ok , ahahahaha the problem is.. a BK will cost me ...400 brazilian Money. either the warpig or the miracle man.
and i have only 200 in my Unholy Wallet.
BUT..... iŽm thinking ... iŽll sell the bridge pup on my charvel fusion deluxe(the rainbow cracle one. not the one i put to sales on the secods out forum) and grab the $%ing BK pickup. Q:P
althought i was planning to put a calibrated set in a Custom guitar, but i Žll not have the money to build this custom guitar soon, so, iŽll get the BK pickup first.
Hails Guys

I'm thinking Steve is talking Stateside for the in store but you never know........
-
That Les Paul looks sweet! And i bet those pickups sound it aswell!
-
I saw the concert when they played here just recently. Great show  He played the sparkleburst and black LP for most of it. That sparkleburst is one of the nicest LP's I've ever seen.
-
This is really great news, Steve is my current fave guitar player and I've been learning "flesh for fantasy" the playing on this track is totally awesome.
I will be seeing Billy and Steve at Rock city in November which is gonna be pure quality.
By the way are bareknucklepickups going to be at Birmingham NEC Music Live? this would be great news if they were also, Michael angelo is gonna be there i think he should check the pickups out.
Cheers
-
:D Yep BKP will be at Birmingham in November. Check out the latest news section, i`m sure Tim will post what number stand the guys will be on.

-
I'm getting goose bunps just thinking about a Steve Stevens signature set! Really looking forward to checking them out when they are released :)
You guys rock!!!
-
music live must be insanely loud! is there some kind of limitation imposed on everyone?
most of the cabs you see are dummies....often not even loaded with speakers.
Just there for show. Everything goes through the PA system.
-
Not on our stand  but yes I know what you mean, the Marshall 'wall' is a mock up, looks good though!
-
I once saw Yngwie. He had a wall of about 20 cabs with 2 heads ontop of each head, nearly every stack had a cable into a head and the volume bleeding off his side of the stage was punishing to say the least.
I think he was real that evening. THe fact that the singer never went to his side of the stage was probably another bit of evidence for real cab power....

That's explains why I was refused a demo on a TSL50!

I noticed all those Marshalls on the G3 DVD he had. It Must be awsome to stand on his side of the stage!

All the hard work from Tim and Steve has really paid off. I fitted a set of the Rebel Yell's to my PRS Standard and I still have the Silly Grin 2 weeks later  They are everything that the JB wants to be, but can never quite make it. They want to feedback as soon as you let go of the strings (but a controlled feedback), they clean up fantastically and of course, like all BK's, they react to the way you play. On the PRS, all 5 sounds work too. I had thought that the VHII's were great in the other PRS that I have, but these are even better.
Ben (TwilightOdyssey), used the PRS last night and he had the Grin too - mind you he was also trying out his Strat/Gajic with the VHII. But he used the PRS for Black Flag and got a great sound. If you know TO's stuff, then you will know that Black Flag has a lot of different tones in it. The fact he would even pick up the PRS is a testement to the sound of the picups (the scale length is wrong for him, different neck shape, different string gauges, stupid rotary pickup selector!). Of course his life would have been easier if the channel switch had been there for the Diezel!
-
I'll post a thread about the RY vs. the VHII today. Interesting pickup.
-
Sound clips!Sounds clips! And looking forward to the review.
-
That thar is some pretty sweet pups, loving the new work T.
-
:D Sound clips !!!!

Did anybody else see Steve in the new Guitar World? He's got that same Les Paul, and the Bareknuckle logos are quite visible on the pickups :)

Billy Idol got some great reviews about the show at the Heineken Music Hall in the papers today.
"Non stop 2 hour show", "very energetic" and "Awesome guitar playing by Steve Stevens" were mentioned in the article.
-
what about the tone, WHAT ABOUT THE TOONE!!!!!!!!
:P
-
Right now, theres nothing in the world i want more than a LP with Rebel Yells! They're gonna be AMAZING
-
Just to remind you all that Steve Stevens is giving a guest lesson in this month's Guitar Techniques DVD - and very good it is too!
-
totally sweet, I'm gonna go grab this. thanks Elliot!
-
I think the quality of player eloquently suggests the potential of these pickups.
This is usually the case with most, but it's even more appealing to me because he has always got one of my top Les Paul tones (along with Gary Moore). I am not sure what he has used for pickups in the past but the sound clips of the Rebel Yells sound very typical of Steve Stevens. They have a tonal resemblance to PAFs in many ways too but are a bit hotter and thus more versitile.
I am so buying these. I have figured out I need 50mm spacing in the Les Paul, my credit card company should do the currency exchange for me, I can get 4 conductor wires and install push-pull coil taps at a later date if I wish... the only thing that I am stuck on now is nickel or chrome.
-
I finally tried mine last week, and it is a monster. You can not go wrong with the 4 way conductor, push-pull coil tap. It is really versatil, and it has such a gorgeous tone. :)
-
the only thing that I am stuck on now is nickel or chrome.
For the BKPs I put in my black Les Paul, I went with "raw nickel" and I quite like the sort of "matte finish" look of them as opposed to the glossiness of chrome.
On the other hand, I wish I had a guitar to load with some "burnt chrome" finish pups! And the purple/black zebra option for the RYs is pretty funky 8)
-
I saw steve and met him and billy in texas backstage at SBSW music festival 2005. No wonder steve's guitars sounded so amazing! he also had other guitars with P90s and the tone of that les paul he used with p90 (possibly Bare knuckles) is still the best guitar tone I've ever heard, it haunts me even now.
Steve is also a really nice guy, so is billy they were very freindly and they said they loved the manchester people and the place, which was a great thing to say, oh what a gig!
-
JJretrotonegod, I checked out your myspace and I must admit I like your style and tone. Nice work.

I want that sparkleburst LP :D
you want it, I have it! sort off: i have a guitar with that inlay, but a funkier, flashier top.
edit: I'm mistaken! sorry! There is another sparkleguitar in the world (a shamray) and that one has the 'stripping girls' inlay that guy of Motley crue once had, i believe. and THAT is what I have. here's a pic:
Warning: guitarP*RN HERE!
its also with my other les paul, loaded with nailbombs. the nailbombs will go into the quilt-purple, and the flame will get Rio grande crunch/punchbox set. just to change things a bit. both have, by the way, full rosewood necks, but the flame had rio rosewood neck, and braz. rosewood fingerboard
-
Those inlays are hawt :D
But no lol, the first picture in the thread :P

Why Steve has a raygun pictured on his pickups
