So I cancelled the collection a day before like stated in their terms and conditions but they still sent the courier and because we didn't give the parcel (cancelled) they charged us a tenner for failed collection. Is there anything I can do?

Have you write down which person you have spoke in the cancell? Did he/she give you any number, etc?

I cancelled (via email) stating why and I was very polite, then they didn't reply for 2 days till today saying it's too late

print the email you've sent with the date showing if it doesn't work you would have to go to the court, but probably it won't be very "worthwhiling"... Don't know how is in UK, in Brazil we have the "Small Causes", but even for something less than £100-200 I would not go there, but say to everyone that I know that they are c**k-suckers :lol:
The stress would be too big for too little money, IMO...
Better ask somebody UK based :D

Phone them up and bolluck them. Demand that they send your parcel for free.
They probably won't do that, but will probably not charge you £10.
I don't know how angry you can get on the phone though

This may sound like a really stupid question, but have you paid up the £10 yet? If not, don't. Let them waste their time chasing you, and use someone more reliable in future.
If you have already paid, ring them and complain. Have your email visible to you when you are on the phone, as well as their reply, and most importantly of all: keep your temper, don't shout and definitely don't swear. Do all you can to maintain the high ground of a wronged customer.

Hu yes, agreed with Simon, didn't explain well... don't be nice, but don't appeal to swearing... it's like: "I'm not a nice guy and I don't want to talk much to you, so the faster it goes, the better to both us" :lol:

One important point - did you actually book it with the courier company themselves or through an agent, like the many companies offering cheap DHL deliveries on ebay ?
If you booked it through an agent, and then cancelled it through an agent, then the agent would be responsible for not telling the courier company, not you. They would then be liable for the £10 payable to the courier company.

That's exactly it. I payed the postage charges so they have used them as the fine. I booked through agent and cancelled through the agent, so they didn't tell parcelforce. I just checked my emails and I sent 3 emails over 2 days (2 days before the collection date) stating I would like it cancelled.

It can be a problem when booking through cheap agents. If you know exactly what you want, and don't change ANYTHING after you've booked the service, then it has always worked well for me (maybe 50 or so times), and been very cheap of course !
If you need to cancel or change anything about the delivery - that is where the problems have been for me. It seems like you have found the same.
You need to keep nagging the agency company about it. It really is their c--k-up and they should return your £10. Keep all emails (and copy them to the agency). You could take them to a small claims court, but it really wouldn't be worth your time, stress or hassle. You may need to just put this one down to experience, and realise that in the future, you must never change anything about an agency-booked courier service.
It sucks, but I'm not sure you have much option.

Yeah cheap ones like parcel2go.com are cr@p, I wouldnt use em again. When I booked a DHL collection through them to go and pick up my guitar on a day twinfan had booked off from work especially, they didnt even turn up :x

They really are OK most of the time, and are waaaay cheaper than booking through DHL themselves. I've used parcel2go.com and various similar others many, many times and have only ever had problems when I wanted to re-arrange a collection day or some other way of changing the original arrangement.

I've used Parcel2go lots of times and only once had a problem, when City Link had apparently attempted delivery three times (but the bloke claimed he was in each time). Then they returned the parcel to me without any warning - fortunately I just happened to be at home that day.
(I ended up delivering it myself. And the f*cker never left me feedback.)

Having said that I've been using Parcelforce recently - they seem to have reduced their prices, so they're cheaper than Parcel2go now.

I recall trying to get some computer parts delivered by them a while back, and being a complete idiot, did so in the middle of July, when everything in NI is shut for a couple of days.
Eventually, I got hacked off waiting, four days after the alleged nect day delivery date, and asked if there was any chance they'd get the stuff to my house. "Er, no sir, we're sort of backed up after the holiday. Is there anywhere in the Belfast Area you could meet the courier?"
At this point, I did feel obliged to remind them my house was in "the Belfast area", and if they could meet me there it'd just be super. This did not go over well.
A week later, the parts arrived.

The lied to me also! They said they laser measure them at the depot and when I asked Zilla earlier, he said he rang them and they don't even bother measuring unless it's obvious that it's too big. bar-stewards!
